Badly want to go see some snow for myself aswell, cant beleive its as low as 300m there

Yeah ideally i wanted to do like 'Bull' did and have the boxes incorporated into the rear lights... but couldn't find anyone capable enough to do it  Also if i do it again i would do them out of 3mm so they could take a good wack!!
A man of your talents mitch could make his own yeah? :D ... I just can't weld thin shit for the life of me

Just had a look at bulls, also similar to what I want. I'd like them like you have, having the bottom angled except all the way to the tail lights like you say. My way of doing it was to just have the rear few inchs of it just as a fake panel to give the imitation that box is the full length. Purely for looks.

I'll take your advice and go 3mm instead of 2.

Mate, nice tool boxes, who made them for you and how much ??
I made slight error when building my tray and its 20mm too narrow to take 2 comercial made under tray tool boxes, had to move trat across to get the one on annd am thinking about buying a comercial box and cutting 25mm out of it and welding back together -- lots of fu#@ing around so maybe custom boxes easier. Everytime I get home I'm surprised to see the comercial box still attached to the tray and not been torn off or fallen to pieces as they pretty flimsy.

GEOFF!! Cold enough for ya?
Mate, Adept's at Derwent Park bent the boxes up for me.. I'll track down his number for ya. You'll prob pay twice as much or more than the ones you get at supercrap Auto but well worth it to get it how you won't IMO.
I just ordered some mini gas struts for them... Not really necessary but i love gas struts

Made a quick and very tuff guard for the transfer case out of 6mm plate!! 2 welds and 2 bends and several cut off blades later..

Unintentionally put it to use straight away ... Got very bogged today in the bush and was bottomed out dragging on the front crossmember and the new plate. It managed to collect a lot of shit (like the stock one used to) So thinking i may weld plates all around the sides and back, not to worried about covering over the drain plug as its only 4x 12mm bolts to remove the guard...

Haven't been out in the lux for a few weeks.. still jigging a few things on the tray to get it all set up how i want.

Scored a second hand Hayman Reece bar and set about choppin it up.
I recessed the towing tounge into the bar and welded on some 10mm brackets that also act as the catch chain loops for when towing.

Bought one of those recovery hitch do dats... Have never really been to fussed and usually just used the snatchie with the pin in the towing tounge, but this seems a quality bit of kit and should be alot quicker then dicking around with the pin..
Image

Scored a set of 16x8 P10 GU rims for next to nothing!!
I will get these powder coated black and at the end of the year will house my new 285x75x16's :D :D

problem with a guard like that is if you hit something you shear the bolts right out of the transfer case...a proper seperate skid plate is the best thing to do.

Yeah mmaaxx that's the only problem i see with it that the 6mm plate is alot stronger than the bolts themselves so there the first things that will fail/brake.
I'm working on another one that is fully enclosed so there would be nothing to catch on, but would still be the same issue if it took a big knock.
Ideally a plate from the back of my buds guard through past the tranny would be the best setup... has anyone done it? I know RodW started on something like it but don't think it ever eventuated.

Re: JAKES HILUX - 33's, Beers & LED's

Postby jakelux on Sun, 02 Oct 2011 9:46 +0000

Have been pretty busy working on the lux at nights in the shed (only chance i get to work on it).
So after quite a bit of chopping, grinding and bashing i have succesfully fitted 285/75 Kumho kl71's to the lux with only 2 1/2 inch of lift!!
I didn't even bother flexing the new tyres up to see what needed cutting as i have read enough and seen enough on this forum to know how much i had to do.. and even more so because i probably have less lift than anyone else on here that has fitted 285's.
I think the Patrol rim offset and my stiff suspension has made it possible.
Here's what i did.....

Bent back the ARB bar splash guards.. I will get some rubber sheet to fill in the space
Image

Trimed the inside of the flare, cut out that small section of the guards, cut the bottom bit of pinch weld off and bash flat about 150mm of it (could of gone a bit higher).
Looks like i was carrying around a few of Tassie's Noxious weeds, not to mention the 3 inch thick slush from half of Victorias state parks..
Image

Copied Amitch's great idea of cutting a 'V' out of the bodymount than bashing it back in and rewelding (although maybe not as neat as Amitch ;) )
I could of taken maybe another 5mm of the bodymount and gone further back with it but seems good enough.
Image

Welded back on (bit rough). I stupidly left the rubber mount on when welding and it got pretty smoky and soft  You live and learn.
Image

A lick of Killrust, I also coated all the pinchweld and any other exposed cuts with some Hydroseal.

And here the are 285/75 Kumho KL71 directional mud terrains on 16x8 GU patrol rims with Positive 10 offset.
I painted them with 3 coats of LIC40 which is an industrial Polyurethane coating.

From the right the KL71 285's, 32/11.5 Bighorns and 265/75 copper AT's
