Look forward to seeing you at Finke maybe? I travel up with a mate who runs car 810 in the extreme 4x4. I love that racing and take a heap of photos that I put on face book for people to see, hopefully I will get your truck in a few as I am getting tired of mostly seeing Nissan's in that class.

Good luck with the project.

Managed to get the body mounted, and chopped off the back end of the chassis. Next step is to create a basic rhs frame to mount the irs cradle to. From here we will need to work out the rest of the frame to pick up the shock mounts and bump stops etc. As well as mounting the spare tyres, tool box and jack etc.

Wont be making it to finke all that soon, hoping to make kalgoorlie aorc round 1. If you race in Extreme 4wd in wa we have patrols, g wagons, navaras, silverados and much more. We are getting big fields and a good variety of cars. This will be the first hilux, but there is my old production class hilux running around still.

Had a few more goodies arrive today. Should get a bit more bar work done this weekend. Still waiting for adapters to be made from engine to box, but that shouldn't be too long and then its full throttle on the build. Its all starting to come together quite well!

Got a far bit more barwork into the roll cage today. We are going overkill on what the regulations require, but I think it makes you feel safer which makes you more comfortable to push harder on race day

More goodie from Monster Rides, we will be running a diff drop kit in the racecar. Should be getting the bellhousing adapter this week which will mean we can start mocking up engine positions etc. soon

Couple more updates...

First is the adapter which we have had machined up to mate the bellhousing which suits a ls1 to the gearbox.

Second shot is the new grill and MR Depo lights mocked up in position. Going to look pretty tough I reckon! Especially once we chop the front of the chassis off and put a nice prerunner style bash plate and bar in there

by chance, will that adaptor become a purchaseable item in future or was it only a one off?

only a one off and it would be no good for what you want anyway. It adapts an ls1 commodore bellhousing to a pajero gearbox. Only going the pajero box as it allows us to run the pajero transfer which splits drive roughly 60-40 rear front to get rid of understeer

I think what you are after is the adapter kit that Marks Adapters or Castlemaine Rod Shop do which suit the r150f & r151f boxes. Having said that Im sure you could find a local joint to help make up something?

For Engine mounts we are either going to make our own or looking at the Works Automotive generic LS engine mounts which you can buy and adapt and weld to your chassis

Cheers, was just wondering.

I know you mentioned using the R150f box earlier on, so I thought you guys made up your own to suit rather than get one already available on the east coast.

How are the pajero transfers? they chain or gear driven?

Yeah initially we were planning too, but these boxes are cheap and easy to find and also gives us the option down the track to run a dogbox conversion through it for strength and a quicker change. There is no dogbox kit for the hilux box unfortunately.

I believe they are chain driven, but could be wrong. Haven't dissected one yet. The clever bit is the viscous coupling which is what splits the drive I believe

Have the engine, gearbox and transfer bolted together so we can figure out where to mount them. Looking at moving the engine back for better weight distribution and cutting a hole in the firewall. Going to have to sacrifice a bit of leg room to get the extractors through!!!

Well we have started working on the location of the engine, and gearbox. Moved it back a fair way, gives plenty of space in the front and can be mounted nice and low for better of centre gravity and weight distribution. The pedal shown on the in cabin shot is the brake pedal which we will have to relocate a little closer to the accelerator. Whilst we have lost a little room in cutting out to all the exhaust etc. to run through it still fairly close to where we want it to be.

Will mounting the engine in that manner cause any dramas for ongoing maintenance access?

Nah the floor and firewall will be able to be removed in the areas where we have cut out. This means we will have full access to the engine. The firewall will be cut more as well where needed to help. The majority of cars in the field have something similar with a recessed firewall which you box out to give you full access around the engine.

Havent heard of ruffstuff? Got any links? We were probably just going to make our own mounts, but if these worl better could be a good option

Damn can't believe ive never heard of them. That site is full of cool stuff stuff! Designfab in queensland has a lot of the brackets etc. And for a guy in Australia if you need it that bit quicker is a good deal. He also has a disk brake conversion for the current model hilux where you use either gq or subaru L series calipers

Yeah mate we do it all ourselves, we have a couple of sources for the cage material, which is all to CAMS / CCDA Spec Tubing 1" 3/4 (44x2.6mm) and 1" 1/2 (38x2.6mm) CDS

Unfortunately the hilux build has stopped temporarily. We got offered a vehicle for a stupid price to race in Production 4wd and this is it...Nearly ready to race on the long weekend in June
