Hi Matt,I saw your car on the Allied web page in the images section.I have tried to get those same wheels [Tomahawk 8x16]fitted to my new Hilux and being told by tyre dealer we cant do it? Can you tell me if you had to do anything special like spacers ?Do you get any rubbing on guards or brakes? They look great and from the info I've read here they should fit but I'm being told I have to have min 0 offset ?Your wheels are -5 offset I believe from the specs.Hope you can advise!!

Hey Mick,

Didn't have to do anything special mate... a few guys on here have fitted them now with no issues? You're tyre dealer is probably just covering his arse as the -5 offset can cause some issues on the front mud gaurds ( i just removed mine ) and sometimes scrapes on the side step. Doesn't really bother me though...

Matt, when you say removed the scrape problem on the front was it the inner guards or the bumber you removed??

just a couple of questions about your lock box

what size is it?
how did you fasten it to the tray so it doesn't slide arond?

Hey Mick,

It was the mud flaps i removed, not the gaurds sorry for the confusion!

It scrapes on that plastic bit on the side steps that's about it :)

Hey Mat,

Congrats on the ute, bub and mag cover.

I saw your ute when i was scouting through members shed and saw your Tomahawks. I ordered them the next day. Sorry to hear you having to sell the Lux but your doing it for good reason.

Hope the truck goes to a good home.

Its been great reading your build up mate :)

Thanks guys, still won't be selling it until my contract at work is renewed just to make sure everything is sweet. If all goes well it will be a LC200 series maybe, otherwise who knows... depends how much my pay is cut as it looks like i'll be going from external contractor to fixed term internal contractor, oh well security is good in a job with a family on the way!

A few people have asked how i got this gig, honestly I didn't expect it. As you have probably noticed it's quite a basic hilux compared to all the others on here. But the magazine editor wanted 4 modified dual cab utes with just the "essentials" done to get you off the road.

It was a great trip, the article turned out completely different to what I expected though. It seems more like tips than about the actual trip which is what I thought it was going to be. Still the photos turned out great and the tips are very handy for beginners. Was a great experience.

More photos from the photographer can be seen here, mainly based on my hilux though: http://gallery.me.com/matt.lees#100142

Hey Fellas,

Time has come to finally sell it, i'll be listing it this weekend "officially" haha.

I was looking at a 200 series, but i'm about to scoop up a 2002 hilux 3L TD off a good mate of mine, it has recently installed front and back lockers from ARB, muddies, snorkel, bullbar, spotties and 165k on the clock and very well looked after. For 18k I am quite happy with this.
On top of that, i'll be buying a family wagon, most likely another VE but this time a V6 since the other half can't drive V8's yet! spewin!

If anyone is interested let me know. I am thinking low 50's at the moment considering it's still quite new and the going price of second hand ones are still high 40's, low 50's.

Anyone have any opinions on the price, selling with all mods...

Hey Matty. Ive just done the same thing mate bought a VE Clubby and loving it. The Mrs was scared to drive it but now she loves it. Its an easy car to drive slowly. Just do it!

Im looking at selling my truck too but im removing the lift and wheels because the combo is too good, i wont get any extra for selling it with the truck and i want to put the gear on my next truck.

Thanks for the info Troy appreciate it. They are definitely overpriced with some of the older models! Mine has 31,000kms on it at the moment. Pretty much all highway driving, I drive between sydney and orange NSW every week (400kms return) and travel to my bike races all around NSW. I've city driven in it twice in its whole (short) life

Hey Johnny, mate i'd love to. Before this Hilux i had a VE clubsport tourer (wagon) but the mrs is on her RED p's still so legally she can't drive them... she said she'd risk it but i know who will have to pay the fines and transport her around when she gets caught  as soon as she is off them mate I'll be back in a V8 1000% gaurenteed!

What is the next truck you are buying? I didn't really think of selling them separate....
