Steel canopy for twin cab tray

Postby scratcha on Thu, 04 Mar 2010 8:11 +0000

Hey fella's, i'm in the process of building a canopy for the tray of the Lux, just dont want the tools rattling around my head in an accident (currently in the back seat area)

Steel main frame in C section
Bracing & door frames in 40mm angle
Door skins & canopy ends in steel sheet 1mm
Roof in 2.5mm ally (old road sign)

Photos to come.

yeah your right you shoulnt have sold it. the style of canopy your doing is the same as what i had on some work trucks and found it the best thing to work out of compared to vans etc.

looks good man. those doors are great for staying out of the weather specially if you have a little work bench on one side. every thing is in easy reach from each side ,good to see it finished. what do ya do for work. the only 2 issues i had to keep in mind were where i parked,ie tight driveway beside houses made it hard to open the doors . the other prob was the other one we had in the work fleet a bloke had problems remembering to latch the doors down properly. once one of the doors flung open right as he past a power pole. suprise no more door

Thanks for the positive comments, I work as a Supervisor doing Train Maintenance, Dont require the tools much for work, Its more for taking the tools and gear up to the farm, god knows there is always a stack of work up there waiting for me! Its up at Bonnie doon, but I love getting away up there.

The work bench is a great idea, I will have to work out how to fit up a vice.

Nice job scratcha.
I reckon white. I was always planning on doing mine white but in the end left it natural (aluminium) as it will only get scratched, but if you are painting it the white will match in nicely.

White, or perhaps a hammertone grey/silver for a different look. Good job Scratcha.

Thanks fella's, I was thinking either the Hammertone Dark grey and color match the bar (picking up soon) or the white for simplicity.

Next mod, roof console. this should be fun!

It was bloody heavy when the 4" gal poles where still attached I can tell you! (it had been knocked over & bent up by a truck) had been laying in the grass for months, had to go, was a hazard for the mowers :D

Im thinking a work bench inside, swing out table I saw on here somewhere, LED lighting & maybe a reverse camera (paranoid about little kids) I have fitted audible reverse globes to the rear lights, neighbors hate em, but if it saves a life?

Considering a mesh across the inside end walls to hang jumper leads etc off & to tie the chainsaw to.

Painted inside & out, 10mm ply floor. bolted to the tray, the gas struts I bought for the RHS wont hold the weight of the door, upgrades already

Looks good mate, as Pootrol said you will love how much room you have and how accessable everything is. I fitted some strip led lights under the gull wings, they work well
