Your rig looks bloody fantastic mate, I have the same Ironman bar and was thinking about colour coding it too. Wasn't sure how it would look, but seeing yours I will definately do it.

No mate the 265's are no problem. No rubbing at all. I was thinking about uping the size to 285's, but I think at the moment I will stick to the current size to avoid any problems

Well guys I think the time has come for a change.... The hilux will be hitting the market in the coming days.... As for the plan once it is sold?? Havent fully decided on that yet.

Two options really:

Sticking with the hilux, and buying a bit newer model possibly in V6 this time, or;

down grading a bit and put a bit more cash toward building a new house

decisions, decisions

It will probably depend on what I find on the market to buy once I start searching a bit.........

House market seems a little quieter at the moment, might be the time to get in somewhere.
Failing that, get a V6 and boost the shit out of it

Re: Murf's 06 Hilux- Thinking of changing over to a V6!!!

Postby murf6 on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 6:31 +0000

G'day guys has been a while,

Currently considering a couple of options:

Option 1 - Sell this current hilux and buy a V6 model instead - Reason, I only travel low k's each year so not to fussed about fuel consumption difference. The thought process behind changing over to a V6 is that I would like to get some extra power from the hilux to upgrade to 33's, but when looking at a 1000+ for an exhaust upgrade, and same again for an engine chip I'm not really sure if it is worth the effort. Buying a V6 will give me the power without the need for the extra modifications. (Anyone want to swap their V6 for a turbo diesel?? I am serious??)

Option 2 - Keep the hilux I have, fit a body lift, 33's, and spend the cash for the exhaust + engine chip.

At the moment I am leaning toward option 1. Sell the current lux and find a fresh canvas and start from scratch with a whole new project....

I am keen to get some thoughts from you guys.... Especially those with the V6, what they think in comparison to the diesel...

cheers Murf

Hey Murf, With the current lift and a chip you could fit 33x10.5 on 15 inch SR5 rims (I think DLUX has this setup). I have the same suspension set up (well will have in a couple of weeks) and I'm think of doing the 33x10.5 on my SR5 rims with a chip from Rodw @ VMN $995 delivered.

Just my 2c worth

What about the dealer installed TRD supercharger on a new V6 auto that's been discussed in other threads?

Make the most of your "fresh canvas". 8-)

Thanks for the comments guys. Scotsman I would love a SAS lux mate would be bloody fantastic. Expense might kill me a bit on that one. Another reasoning for thinking about heading the V6 option is reading a few horror stories about diesel injector issues etc. I'm sure it is only a very small % of lux owners that have had an issue, but when you read a few things it does get the old mind ticking over a bit.... I know there has been a few threads about the matter, but what are peoples thoughts....

Murf.....

I love the diesel but I'll admit it that if I bought another fourby it'll be petrol.

reading the reports in one of the other threads, if the option was there at the time I would have got an SR with a TRD supercharged V6 and auto......

I too worry bout the injector issue....touch wood its been good so far but it only takes a small amount of bad fuel for Ka-Ka to happen.

and the expense of repairs, especially if a whole engine.....thats a decent Buddy SAS just there! :o
