Had a mate in North W.A with an 06 SR5 D4D Dual Cab Manual who towed a kanga trailer and kanga digger every day for work and in 3 years never had a clutch problem.
Ive only done 12600km in my 08 model but most of it has been towing a boat and so far no problems.
Hope I don't have any.
I know there have been heaps of clutch issues on here, but we shall see.
I'll always stick to a manual, to me it's not really a 4WD if it's auto, :o personal choice.

What about spray on mud... are you comfortable with blokes that 'swing that way'... or is it an Auto thing...

Re: crosssport's build up-Power Module

Postby crosssport on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 12:11 +0000

Well finally had time to fit my Steinbauer Module.
Ive removed the Humex exhaust and refitted the standard system for now, so I can get it dynoed with just the module and standard exhaust.
This way I will have figures for just fitting the module to a standard hilux.
Once this is done I will the refit the humex system and have it dynoed and module set to optimum settings for my vehicle.
Stay tuned for the results.

Heres a few pics and brief description of what I did.

Firstly removed the intercooler shroud, then the intercooler and fittings.

Then it was just a matter of removing the injector plugs and connecting the Steinbauer harness

Image

Plug the Steinbauer module in and mount it.

Image

There's not much more to it than that, just a little bit of other wiring, 12volt + an earth and a throttle senor wire. Oh and an optional switch if required, which I fitted for testing purposes.Didn't get any pics of that though.

And the engine bay once complete.

Interesting Crossport. So the Steinbauer does not do the piggy back thing at all? I had assumed it would do that as well as the injector intercept.

Looked like a pretty simple job.

That's right Rod,
No piggy back with ECU, this is why I went with Steinbauer as I believe they are the safest. In theory, cannot cause limp mode or engine light faults. Quite easy to install. 8-)

Thanks mate. How simple is that. I thought it would be a lot more involved.

Hey mate looks good. This is exactly what i am doing with mine, the stienbauer will be in at the end of the mth. Are you also going to dyno it with the stock wheels / tyres? It will be interesting to compare our results. I am wanting to do a dyno run before the exhaust and chip with the 33's to compare it to the stated stock output to have an estimate of what i have lost with the bigger tyres and then see how much i gain with the mods. If anyone with 33" has dynod before and after the tyres were fitted (with the D4D) id be very interested in your results too.
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

Drew, I've only got dyno results after the 33"s went on... Was looking to fit some originals or the like and go back but at $88 a go... it gets expensive....

dute,
it's a pre-tuned unit so no tuning needed. However if you wanted to fine tune on a dyno there is an internal adjustment inside the unit. I have not altered adjustment on any that I have installed so far.
And results have all been good.

Hey Crossport.

When you say internal adjustment, is it the 4 little switches inside, or do the newer models have something else? My model is about 18mths old.

Sam,
They have done an upgrade on the module, was told it was a software upgrade and they now have a potentiometer inside instead of the 4 switches. I would say it allows a more fine adjustment than the older switch version.

Re: crosssport's build up-suspension

Postby crosssport on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 2:12 +0000

Well just upgraded the front suspension.
I did a little research and trial with what I ended up fitting.
So here's what I started with and what I ended up with.

Before lift
Front 680mm
this is with 31x10.5x15 tyres.

After lift, although it is yet to settle.
Front 795mm
this is with 31x10.5x15 tyres.

OK heres what I fitted.

Front coils: EFS TPR-104HDE, these are rated at constant 95kg to 125kg load bearing accessories,800lbs/inch.

Front struts: Ironman 12710GR, these are a nitrogen gas strut and height adjustable with spacers, this is why I went these struts. Before to many say oh no not ironman. I thought I would give them a go and see how they perform and hold up.

Front strut spacer: 10mm.

Yet to fit the rears but this is what I have ready to fit.

Rear springs: EFS THX08. EFS heavy duty- constant load rated 300kg to GVM

Rear shocks: EFS 36-5521s nitrogen gas EFS elite-firm.

Heres some front pics before and after.

Standard suspension
Image
CV angles pointing up due to standard suspension drop with bull bar, winch, dual batteries and driving lights.
Image

After lift
Image
CV angles now. It may be a touch high, however I am going to let it settle in and see where it ends up.
Image

So another option for those pondering suspension lifts, without the huge price tags of wizard etc. :D :D :D

Those ironman struts are rebuildable like my Desert Fox ones mate...no need to fit a spacer on top, that ring on the bottom shaft below the spring seat, you can remove that and fit a fatter one that will preload the spring so you get a bit more lift depending on the thickness you install plus your spring gets abit stiffer....better way to do it than the coil spacer on top....just to let ya know it can be done.

your suspension should settle abit......

good stuff

edit:

heres a pic of mine with 2 rings fitted...the second one was a 15mm ring that I had Rob put in to raise the front end after fitting the bullbar which dropped it heaps-

Image

if I ever get a winch......Ill replace the coils with thicker ones to take the extra weight and keep the height.

Yeh Max that's why I went these struts.
I fitted a 10mm spacer under the spring, not a top spacer like snake racing ones.
Was going to fit the 15mm one but glad I decided to try the 10mm first.
Hopefully it will settle about 10 to 15mm.

What's yours sitting at Max?
I dont think my cv angles are that bad, Quinnys were touching a lot more but I think that adding spacers to the top seems to change the cv angle more for some reason.

Max,
My springs are 18mm wire, 370mm free length and 10 coils. I added the 10mm spacer hoping for around the 760mm height. Obviously the 18mm wire makes a big difference compared to what most are 17mm.
Must say I like how it sits though. My new wheels have arrived so now just need to decide on tyres.........
They will atleast fill the guards up a bit. 8-)

Shane,

the second ring that got put in was 15mm in thickness so i got another 30mm lift after it got fitted.....the bullbar dropped my front end almost an inch so it was just over 3" high after the rebuild and its settled on a full 3" now.....theres now way I would go higher without a bodylift now....

Gee those struts of yours look identical to my ironman ones.
Looks like a lot of things these days are made by one company, good chance same strut just different stickers and boxes.
