Mattys Extra Cab Build. SAX TSDS Fitted

Postby Mattya on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 7:05 +0000

OK I’ve had my new lux for a little while now and with a 4-5 week trip back to NSW coming up in March I thought I’d best get to work.

I started yesterday with a UHF install which is a simoco 9000 series programmed with 2 zones 80ch and 40ch. no pics but i had most of my interior apart fitting it in without drilling any holes in any visible spots.(still trying to work out how to fit the handpiece clip)

This morning i went down to ARB and picked up a few goodies.

Image

So in with the battery tray and redarc isolator. The instructions for this were great but my lux has a small box with relays for flashers and a fuse labelled bulbar? I managed to fit this behind the main batt so no huge problem. Any ideas on this?

Image

I got one of the guys at work to engrave me a sheet of lables to put on relays and fuse boxes and power outlets. I had enough wiring, terminals and other sundrie items to not worry about the ARB wiring kit. Plus it makes it quite exxy.

Image
Image
If anyone can spot anything I can make better please let me know, Im no auto sparkie but I hate dodgy wiring on cars. (oh don’t worry about the coil of wire to the right of the engine, its for the UHF and will go to the fuse block Via a relay off the accessory power)

Next was the snorkel, I was going to get ARB to do this but I couldn’t handle the down time of the ute knowing someone got to bust a huge hole in the shiny new paint.

Image
Took me forever to be convinced that it was in the correct location.

Image
I sealed the bare metal with the touch up paint supplied with the lux and put a small blob of silicone on the mounting holes just to make sure no moisture can get in. It was a right pain in the but to get the bolts tightend so I removed the under guard plastic to gain access.

All done for today!!!
Image

I still have the compressor to fit in the morning, but im not sure if I should fit it behind the ABS module or in one of the under seat storage compartments in the back. If anyone has any info as to where they have fitted them Please post them up.

Cheers All, next time im back from work I should have a bulbar and winch to fit. Then a steel cage canopy, suspention wheels and tyres to follow.

The snorkel install, that would definatly be a check 90 times, drill once job :)

Getting stuck into it, good work mate. Check out my build thread it is similar to what your doing I put my compressor behind the abs it's a tight fit you just need to loosen the bolts on the compressor to get it in the right spot 8-)

I have mine mounted in the box under the rear seat on the passanger side of my extra cab. It stays out of the water and heat within the engine bay. Other people mount them in the engine bay in the drivers side against the guard, above the brake unit.

Rekon stage 1 ordered. My deluxe winch bar is ready to be picked up along with a 9.5xp winch and a rhino bar. Then off to south west trailers to have a cage custom made to go on the tub.
A busy week fore when I return from work. Unfortunately knowing this will make the next week drag on....

Mattys Extra Cab Build.

Postby Mattya on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 6:59 +0000

Well I started on fitting my bull bar as Soon as I got home from work. After a 12hr night shift an hour bus ride then an 1 & 1/2 flight followed by an hour drive. I got 4 beers into it then the connection between brain and hands was lost so I had to stop and go to bed.

I woke up this morning to a massive thunder storm and boy was it pi$$ing down. So il have to wait for it to pass before I get back to work.

Got these bad boys to go in today also. :)Image

Hi,

your ute is similar looking to mine!
Corrugated black conduit is always a nice touch when it comes to those chunky cables with the dual battery setup.
I put my compressor under the rear passenger seat and ran the wires inside the chassis rails for the ultimate protection (never see an auto electrician do that before!) and through one of the glands in the body with some silicon around it.

looks like you're doing a good job, keep it up!

Looks niiice,
Put the compressor behind the ABS mate, is a pain in the ass to install but the spot was made for it!!
There's a pic in my shed of it up there.

Agree with the corrugated conduit, but if your utes like mine it would take 4 days to wash the mud out of the chassis rail to use it.
The funniest part about you reading my signature is that by the time you read the whole thing from start to finish you only then realise there is nothing interesting in it.

You need some bigger tyres to fill in the guards a bit more :D

Hey Matty,

Nice work on the build so far... you don't mess around!

Those other parts you wanted were sent yesterday... with any luck they might have got there today?
All depends whether Express post lived up to it's title... :?:

Welcome Mate... glad to hear you are happy with the ride and quality of the Rekon kit. How much lift are you running up front at the moment? It's a bit hard to tell with the stock wheels and tyres still on?

Worked out what wheel and tyre combo you will run when you upgrade?

And lastly... Did you catch any fish?

Cheers
