Well bit of an update but no photos, today fitted a HPD catch can what a great bit of kit an very good company to deal with. Did the upper egr clean last week still waiting on blanking plate with 7mm hole to arrive then will clean intake erg cooler etc.

Items purchased ready for install - ARB rear locker and compressor, ARB deluxe roof rack, Long ranger 120 litre tank.

Ordered awaiting hopefully this week maybe early next week - DCS heavy duty clutch then in for a module upgrade hopefully have dyne figures next week hoping for approx 150rwkw.

In the process of making a shelf compartment for the rear of the dcab due to not running a back seat to mount a Cfx 50.

Then off on the road for a couple of trips over the next month or so, will be hitting up the corners, Birdsville races maybe even sneak in a cape trip see how I go time wise have about 6-8 weeks of on my hands.

Jeff,

Canopy looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. I am about to build something similar for my hilux as well. I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind.

1. I am not sure what thickness steel to use. I was looking at 50x50SHS, 1.8mm thick for the major frame, 25x25, 1.8mm for the steel supports. What did you use?
2. What thickness sheet did you use for the panels?
3. How do you go about sealing the doors?

Great idea with those hinges. Hope you don't mind if I steal that design as well as a few others!

Good luck with the coming trip.

In response to your questions refer below for responses numbered to your questions

1. All my steel thickness was 3-4mm thick on the shs and the rhs. Personally I wouldn't go any thinner than 3mm for the tray main frame. You will be fine with the 50 mm shs. For the steel supports I have used a combo of 100pfc and 50x4 shs.

2. Used 2 mm galv sheet

3. Used pinch weld rubber from clark rubber. Suggest you look at as many canopies as you can here and make the decision prior to starting the fab as you need to stick with it.

Purchased a light bar today, late in the arfo so it is only mounted not wired yet. Spent most of the day running my new clutch in prior to getting on the dyno and finishing of tuning. Phot below of light bar mounted. I may wire it up tonight see how I feel but the beer is tasting good.

Also gave the rear locker a try today all works yet to test it properly didn't want to go to hard while bedding in the clutch.

hardcore but highly admirable to sacrifice the rear seats for a fridge, looks like a pretty sweet setup, except locker activation noise from a compressor in the cab :D

Well I just had written about 1500 words about a previous trip I had completed up the cape and lost the lot so now for the short version about it and my South Aus trip out to innamicka and the flinders. I was travelling solo vehicle and no passanger so all in all spent about 3 weeks up the cape and about 3 weeks over in SA. all up covered about 12000 kms total travel time closer to 8 weeks. Had a blast drunk too much beer and didn't get enough photos any way below is a few randoms form both trips.

Re: Jeffros 2012 dc sr5 build finally dynoed

Postby Jeffro2012SR5 on Fri, 30 Oct 2015 11:08 +0000

Well finally got around to putting this fat girl on the dyno after having the DPU module in the car. Stock was down on power due to weight and tyre size compared to a stock hilux. Stock only getting 70 rwkw and 240 rw nm. With the module getting 133 rwkw and about 445 rw nm. (All stock turbo now running 22psi). Drivability is there with the power and torque when you want to put the boot in.

ImageWell a bit of a play today on the dyno at diesel power unlimited. Note my car weighs close to 3 tonne
