Jeffros 2012 dc sr5 build

Postby Jeffro2012SR5 on Sun, 06 Jul 2014 12:55 +0000

Well it's been quite some time since I have posted about the hilux,

Since I bought it progress has been slow, but to date I have installed a 2" tough dog lift in the front, fitted a x rox bar with a winch, fitted light force 170s to the bar. I have installed a UHF. Setup a duel battery system by means of a red arc 1240lv with an 85ah agm under the bonnet in an arb tray. I have fitted arb underbody protection. Fitted a safari snorkel.

Currently building a tray with a canopy built as part of it, below is a photo doing a trial fit last weekend on a work ute to check mounting holes line up and to double check where to mount mud guards.
Image

Below is the progress today, fitted supports getting ready for sheeting, mud guards have been mounted.
Image

Yet to make the doors but have made the hinges, I will update as I get further through over the coming weeks. At this stage I will paint the same colour as the car when done.

Below is hinge, yet to drill holes for struts and still got a bit to do regarding the door frame.

And a rear view of the tray,

We'll hope you enjoy.

Sorry I should have added the the tray is 1650 long over all, by 1850 wide. The height it the under side of the shs will be approx 925 - 930 from the ground around the same height as the wheel arch of the existing tub. Btw all the accessories to date have been fitted by me.

Looking good man, will be good to see the finished product. What plans have you got for it when you're done the tray?

Very jealous of the fabrication skills. Pretty good looking back shed you got there too.
I'm not alone in struggling to get kids off electronics then I see. Lol

Adam, no major plans after the tray, just fit it out for touring etc, maybe some new wheels and a good set of 32's.

Matt, yeah it's hard to keep of the electronics but that's the time we live in, unless we have the motorbikes, guns or no signal. As far as the back shed one of the puris where I work I have most at my disposal for my use on a weekend when we are quiet. Fabrications skills are rusty, don't get on the tools to much these days

Re: Jeffros 2012 dc sr5 build updates on tray inc canopy

Postby Jeffro2012SR5 on Sat, 12 Jul 2014 2:24 +0000

So some updates on the work done today, only had a couple of hours spare. Got the material cut for the door and door frame, got one door on with struts setup (still awaiting 2 additional struts on back order).
So below is a picture of door on and closed.

Below pick showing strut all tucked away when door is closed.

Below showing with door open giving clearance for an awning to be fitted later

And the final photo showing a close up of strut and hinge setup

Re: Jeffros 2012 dc sr5 build further updates

Postby Jeffro2012SR5 on Sun, 27 Jul 2014 3:08 +0000

Well didn't get as much achieved today as I thought, only had a few hours an got one door completed skinned and fitted back on. We'll I learnt a few things one being I need to double up my struts or get bigger capacity. And two skinning the door caused some distortion so the door needs to come off and get a bit of pushing the other way with some hydraulics. Any way a couple of photos showing the door on.

Surprisingly it does not weigh as much as it looks, all up approx 350-370 kgs all up. Considering most steel trays come in about 220 - 250. But it is built well with out blowing my own trumpet ( a bit dodgy in some areas by my standard being of the tools for the last 8-9 years) but am pretty happy so far.

I pity the day I reverse into someone or the rear end the car not much hope for them, the rear bar is very solid.

No worries. Will you run power to the cabinetry?

Yeah going to run power to the canopy, and also run solar to keep the charge up, yet to deside wether to add a roof rack or bolt the solar to the roof of the canopy. Not overly found of elec work but power lights etc I have to do as there is no point going to this much effort and not doing it. Still debating about a sound system for the canopy for those long beer nights when camping

If you do might I suggest Marian audio, some water proof speakers, nice amplifier and head deck with USB/iPod connectivity
