the LS2 has a much improved torque range over the LS1, especially down low.

I realise you are going to be high in the rev range though, and the LS1's are cheaper and more readily available.

Yep, thats why the other racecar has a fully built Ls2, but uses an 80 series box, too truck like for my liking... http://youtu.be/fuIs3UrHgkc
And we have already got the engine plus its already going to have a bagload more torque then the v6 had and that wasnt exactly slow, so if we find we are lacking once its built we know where to look to next

Make sure you get a hold of the latest copy of dirtcomp magazine for an article on the old Production 4wd hilux...And work is slowly beginning on the new racecar, but we will be waiting on a lot of parts and doing research, so there wont be many updates for a while

Time for a bit of an update on this...
Check out our new website, http://www.flatoutoffroadracing.com

Here's some pics of the latest progress on the new car. Its not all that much, but its a start and we are streadily starting to move in the right direction with the project

Image
We had a wrecked dual cab body which we have now stitched back together as an extra cab

Image
The old man was on the job top remove some of the extra brackets from the rear to allow us to tack the new rear end into place.

Image
And this is the new Pajero Independent Rear Suspension Cradle tacked onto the chassis. There is still a lot more work to do on this, we will have to chop the chassis and make our own frame to carry the new rear end

Still a heap more work to do on this, but we would like to thank Matty and the Monster Rides guys for their help, we will be running a few of the mods that they have developed on this new car such as the diff drop for the front end, which just goes to show the quality of the MR gear

Oh and if anyone wants a little sneak peak at what we plan for it to look like when we are finished. We already mocked up the stickers on a 1:10 scale RC car

This is going to be an epic build........ It's great to see someone having a go and building not buying. Its going to be a lot of work but I'm sure you will enjoy getting it dirty for the first time.

Good luck ;)

Hopefully have it ready around February next year for the 2014 wa series

Just picked up a new sump for the ls1 and motec for it as well. The old man is gonna have a crack at another comp in his ls2 powered 45 series so that will be getting a bit more of the shed time over the next few weeks, but agter that time for the body work and cage whilst we organise the adapter and bellhousing

Castlemain rod shop, seatons engineering and marks adapters all do r series bellhousings for an ls1. Theoretically all you would need is custom engine mounts to get it sitting in there plus all the gear to get it running...we have changed tact a little and will be using a pajero box as thr transfer case viscous coupling splits drive better (more rear) which reduces understeer. Also cheaper and easier to get a hold of

IRS is similar but not as modified as the suspension that the guys at Chapmans Offroad Racing run?

Yeah except Claytons is way more extreme then where we are starting out...we want reliability first, then will come the extended arms etc...eventually it will probably morph into something similar

Well after a bit of messing around we have come to the conclusion we are best of running a pajero gearbox and transfer case. Managed to pick up some bits. In the mean time done a bit of cut and grind getting ready for the cage and to remove any of the dented panels. It would have been much easier to start with a straight cab, but they seem pretty hard to find at a reasonable price. From here we will start looking at getting a basic cage into it whilst adapters for the gearbox are made.

In 2 weeks time we will be heading up to the Gascoyne Dash to support the guys who purchased the old production 4wd hilux. Wayne has been doing a great job all year and managed to pull out 1st in Production 4wd (3 years in a row for that car) 3rd Outright (Second Year in a row for that car) and after only entering 1 round of the AORC looks set to take out 2nd in Production 4wd in the AORC. Here is a clip we put together for him from this season http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hblIj9Nz ... 2gKPSGtp1A

Updates have been a little slow these last few weeks, went up to the Gas Dash to help the guys out with my old car (06 Hilux). They did the clutch on prologue but we managed to a get a new one sent up and get them back on track. Unfortunately they missed out on day 1 of the event, but won day 2 in class by about 3 or 4 mins.
Managed to get some base plates for the roll cage made and the main hoop, laterals and windscreen bar tacked in place. Its very slowly starting to take shape and there is still a lot more barwork and panel beating to be done. A whole new roof and 2 a pillars need to be fabricated, but on the plus side we wont be putting a windscreen back in so we have room to play with

And here is a quick preview of the event, more footage will be posted soon
