See, even your own car is telling you to get out more and use it ;)

1st Step in the next stage of the hilux's development is about to be underway.

Bought this roof-rack/cage I need to pick up this weekend for a great price.

Dimensions are absolutely perfect for my small tray. Plan is to sit it on top of the frame I am going to put together for the canopy for the tray, but have the top of it no higher than the highest point o the cabin roof. Its 15cm high so thats the measurement to go by. In future, If I need a RTT. I can just relocate this to above the cabin whe required (still has to fit inside the garage, currently have 2" lee-way)

Also, coming out in the next 2 to 3 months (currently finalising devlopment) is a new option for you all when it comes down to split or replacement CV boots.

Currently the best option out there are the factory units, but that will soon change.

There will be a new design, that allows for more clearance against components, some exotic materials used that will benefit performance/durability and my truck will showcase the first set when ready. Both inner and outer boots.

Watch this space.

Should look good and work well. I like racks over trays. Just makes sense.

Thats the plan. Kind of like a 2 level storage area when needed.

That's going to look good done. I like the cut-out sections at the front and rear of the rack, gets best of both worlds for those who really only want those side rails.
Cheers,
Jay

Picked up the rack this morning. Its alloy which is a bonus, I thought it was steel, so less weight uptop.

I mocked up a fitment and took a pic below. Top of rack to be same height as cabin.

Front headboard will be extended higher and a rear matching one will be fitted at the rear just before the rear corners of the tray start.

Front and rear headboards will be joined together across the top. And possibly 2 rear supports going down at the rear either end to back crossmember of tray so when I get it canvassed, it will completely cover everything.

Where the box is, I will cut the floor and vertically sit the spare tyre down into there, suported by a frame underneath. Thats the most practical location to put it.

Or do I mount it at current headboard height and make the frame to suit?

It looks better, more balanced at lower height, will allow more room on second level for storage/spare tyre or whatever. (headboard will get alloy checkerplate covering the open frame)

I'd prefer it higher, more space underneath and Id have it high enough that if I wanted to carry any lengths it could over hang the roof.

If it's low you won't be able to get your 35" spare to sit in the tray upright. Plus if camping with the family , it would be hard to open fridge/esky with it that low.
