Yes, that's right Matty. 33" all terrain/road tyres and 35" + offroad tyres. Depending how big I go I may need to tow them to tracks and fit them.

37" Treps would be awesome but whether they'd fit is a diffwrent story.
Now that'd be a challenge.

No need Ron. Front airlocker I already have is to suit 3.73 and down. The thick cut 4.5's will bolt straight onto this locker.

Something I've been hoping would kick off here in Australia looks like is slowly taking to fruition -

http://www.rockracing4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?517-Ultra4-Inspired-races-in-Australia&p=4593#post4593
Ultra4 Inspired races in Australia

Well, lets make this official. We are bound to see more events sooner rather then later happen in Oz that mimmick the USA's Ultra4 series.

This is a little thread to have your say in what you think will work and what you think needs to be changed to suit Oz.

So that everyone can stop guessing and start preparing; Rockracing4x4 has collaborated with a few others and we are close to announcing an event that will draw up to 60 competitors vehicles and over 500 spectators (as a minimum) for the first series (capped so that we can run it effectively).

We won't make an official announcement for another month or two - the organizing committee will commit to insurance, rules, class classifications and dates as soon as all our ducks line up, but................

..............Get FREAKIN' EXCITED!!! We drove the proposed course today and it's like NOTHING we have seen in OZ before!!

There looks to be three classes; Stock, Modified and Buggy. A quick break down of these classes are:

Stock = street rego'd with minimum safety requirements
Mod = Tuff truck or Winch Challenge style vehicles
Buggy = Pure bread, tube frame beasts along the lines of Ben Napier's Bomber Fab rig or Matt Dunk's LS powered rig.

If you want to run fast, for prolonged periods of time - not having to be told which lines to take, this is the comp for you!!!

Safety will be a big part of this event and we will be introducing regulations that we as 4wders aren't used to. To cover this, you will get at least 6 months notice on vehicle requirements - if not more.

Once the event is officially announced, there will more then likely be NO FURTHER public discussion of the rules or track layout (we will have pre-run days) as to not get into a E-bully slander of how it is going to be run. Never fear though, the organizing committee has event experience and has been watching all the online talk about these events in Oz lately. We know what is needed and we also know what is a load of B/S.

We expect a few comps to pop up before we have a chance to run ours, be assured though, we are going to have this thing dialed in well before we run it, and you, the competitor, will FREAKIN' love it!!

The Course is approx 11.5km long with alot of right foot flat out sections where Driver/Navi will need to plan out there attack on the course prior to racing.
There is sections where you can take mutiple lines to get through a section of the course and vehicles can pass by making quick decissions and taking a different line if someone is held up.
There is going to be alot of areas where you can pass without warning and bumping(which i believe will be allowed).
The first night will be side by side racing under lights to determine the starting order for the big race.

Rumour has it that the first event will have some awesome side by side 4wd racing with bridge cross overs and great flat out areas that competitors can keep even an ultra 4 buggy on the limiter in High. But this might just be a rumour

So my focus is going to be turned towards trying to get my hilux into the street regoed fourby class to begin with. I can see this series spreading to other states. So I am giving my self atleast a year to -

-regear
-cut the hell out of the front guards
-strengthen steering knuckle and tie rod ends (have contacts and products for these when the time comes)
-comp style tray
-big offset beadlocked rims and try for 37's (i beleive its doable by limiting uptravel a little and limiting steering stops abit too)

Heres how I plan to cut the guards....3" rubber sidemount flares will be screwed onto the fenders themselves (33's for everyday driving)

and heres a sneak pic of the tube doors being built on Vader!

And the goal......

Fair enough. Sounds like you have a good idea of how you want it setup. Goodluck with the racing too!

Hey Mmaaxx,

Going back in time, noticed you installed a Chip It chip. How has it preformed over time? Any issues to note?

Putting one on mine, interested in your experience with it.

Cheers,

Diff Gears have landed in the local freight warehouse going by the tracking notification.

It'll be a while till they are fitted but one piece at a time.

Found some more inspiration this morning.....

3" Lift on 05 tacoma, required trimming and cutting, 36/12.5x17 TSL's on -20 offset wheels.

Love the stance!

They only look better, they run a C-Channel chassis rail from A-Pillar back....hilux trumps it in most ways.

The Yanks all wish they could buy hilux's over there.....everyone wishes they could have the greener grass on the other side.
