Cobaw Vids

Postby Hilux Max on Mon, 13 Feb 2012 1:04 +0000

Had trouble uploading to youtube so I ended up putting them in photobucket instead.

Heres the 1998 Hilux struggling to get up a rocky section of track. This was this guys first time doing any sort of offroading like this so I was trying to guide him up and take the easiest line....

Gee what a hinderance the torsion bar front end is on these and no lockers. I think he did well for what it was. I ended up pulling him up this segment.

http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0521.mp4

Heres a vid of George crawling up between the boulder and the tree.....the tree had exposed roots that caused a few problems, having the boulder on the left didnt help either or the off camber situation itself.

http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0523.mp4

Heres me towing/helping Rocky in his 1998 luxi get up -

http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0522.mp4

As i said earlier, the track was a dead end. Lucky we didnt get the Jeep going up there, so he turned around below and came up to help us decend. I felt guilty that I had led them up this awesome ttrack only to have to safely get everyone back down in one piece. And boy was going down an experience

Heres a view from below of DLUX coming down around the tree.....problem was you couldnt steer left too soon as the vehicle would tree and overtake the LHF tyre with the RHR lifting up. We had to get the front of the vehicle onto the opposing embankment to lower the rear and try and steer left slowly then which ws damn difficult with all the hiluxs weight over the front.

http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0524.mp4

And here I am with the snatch strap tied around the RHR of Rocky's tray holding him back from going over. I had the hilux in compound low and gently feathured the brakes. His brakes were stuffed and weren;t holding his hilux back which was another reason for anchoring him onto me.

http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0526.mp4

When we got him through the hard bit around the tree, we disconnected the strap and I went down. I didnt want the strap attached to Rocky's hilux incase he accidently pulls me over.

As is always the case, the last track of the day is usually the one that either gets you unstuck or throws out something unexpected.

Yes Jack, I got the swaybar disconnects fitted a while ago....and even thou a litle noisy at times (clunking) they do help up the rutted and rocky tracks.

They make a difference....each side works more indepedantly. Which benefits offroad when front tyres are alternating between ruts.

Still planning on removing swaybar completely... which will help even more.

So the bullets been bit....

4.5's are getting ordered.

This will change my 1st Crawl ratio from its current 125.86:1 in Compound low to 151.85:1

Not that its not slow enough already but Im planning on going bigger tyres and cutting the sh!t out of the guards to make em fit for offroading. So that'll slightly offset it.

Daily driving will give me some much missed performance and economy back.Even on 33's.

Looking at the chart below, you can see that 35's will bring the revs at 100kph back to same as stock, on 33's it'll be 200rpm higher at 2,900rpm. The tyres being wide and the extra load that comes with it shouldnt be a problem.

Thats it. 8-)

So is the plan 33's for road... 35's for off road?
