Max, nice bump stops eh 8-) just wait till you feel the difference they make for high speed whooped and rutted out tracks!

What are the measurements from the centre of the wheel to the guard at full bump with and without the progressive bump stops? Do they restrict the travel? Also do you have a photo showing the crush on the bumpstops at full bump?

x2
Do they restrict travel or just soften the hard blows of the normal bumpstop?

For those that might not have seen I put a trip report in the past trip section of my trip with the FJ Cruiser Club on the weekend.

http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12363

But one of the FJ members put together a great short video compilation of the day which in his words included "too much hilux" which of course is my benefit.

Check it out below....it shows better the steepness of the hill climb and my several attempts at "the ledge". Good action round one minute mark.

Couldnt embed this one.....

Looks like a great trip Max, one of the guys at my office is really keen to get an FJ and this just made him keener!

The Red FJ with 35's was spotted up at Eildon over Xmas, and we were swapping pictures during the break!

He would like to know how he finds out about the "FJ Club" or is it just a bunch of mates who all happen to have FJ's? Can you share the details?

Now back to the real questions, how did the bump stops perform?

Will you still need to extend them with a washer as per the stock bump stops to fit 33 in and not foul the guard?

FJCC - http://www.fjcc.com.au

go there and subscribe.....forum layout is abit tricky at the moment but they are going to upgrade it with new software in next month.

The bump stop worked well....helps more with the smooth type of whoops you encounter and harder landings at moderate speeds.

Those small sharp potholes you encounter on tracks that catch you out by surprise will still send a shudder through the suspension as previously.

Only time the tyres bottomed out on the front guard and i dont beleive it was the flare themselves but the plastic liner infront of the guard under compression was coming down that steep track and loading all the weight on one front side in a rut.

Am I going to fit the spacer? undecided yet. will give her another trip without and see how much more rubbing if any there is. Id rather not limit uptravel if I can help it, what you limit in uptravel will mean you start raising the opposite wheel off the ground at the same time when you approach those limits.

Those FJ's on 35's, I wouldnt reccomend going the route that they have. They have severely limited their up and down travel and the tyres still rub.

Id reccomend waiting for the rekon FJ kits to come out in the coming months which will solve quite a few of the problems that these tuff looking FJ's have.

Watch the Monster Rides vendor thread, Matty will announce it when they land. Your biggest issue will be removing the factory bumpstops...I didnt have a problem but I have heard that some people have had issues with the bolt/thread spinning within the bumpstop making them have to cut the bump stop out and then removing the thread afterwards.

Id reccomend soaking it with WD40 or similar and if you have a wrench to grip it properly use that else a chisel and hammer and small taps evenly right around to get it to start to unwind.

Edit: heres another pic I thought id throw up that just got posted by an FJ Forum member -

That's for the update, do you have a rough idea when they might be in?

Good to see you getting some time behind the wheel Max and to use it in anger.

MAxxx, if your going to slag off something because your desperate to create a sale of an item not on the market, perhaps best to at least do some homework first....

For the record, the front on thos 35"FJ's uses a 40mm longer strut, with a 9mm bump spacer for the 35"s, and the rear uses a 180mm longer shock, with a 40mm bump spacer, to stop the tyres rubbing, so there are no limited travel here, in fact the travel is much more than a normal 2"lift, we have almost doubled it!

The length, sway bar extensions, diff drop, all add up to lots of travel, using the 760mm rear shocks, we have maxed out everything connected to the rear diff including the rear arm bushes, so there is no more travel left.

We are now having manufactured heim joint panhard and lower arms, to free up the last part of the travel as well.

What length rear REKON shocks are you guys using, that will make them so much better ?

What problems do you think they have that this suspension will fix ?

I look forward to your answers, but please make sure you research them a little better first.
