Will Self Servicing voids warranty???

Postby quiksilverz on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 8:35 +0000

Hi Guys,

Probably a stupid question, I am now up for 10K service and although being fully qualified mechanic with trade certificate i no longer work for that trade, i have concerns will doing the oil change etc myself voids the toyota warranty at all and for not taking the Hilux to their dept for services?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Nick,

Im in the same boat as you mate....my hilux has not set foot yet in a dealership and ill try as hard as possible to ensure that doesnt happen in the future either.

The thing with warranties, as long as you are a qualified mechanic and use genuine parts and follow all the correct procedures when servicing, there is absolutely nothing that can void your warranty.

How do other companies get to service vehicles like Ultratune and the like?

Toyota doesnt have an absolute monopoly on servicing thou they may make that impression on you.

keep servicing your truck mate, and always use genuine parts.

Yep in the same boat as well ..
Had many cars over the years and all are the same as Max sez
Do it and use their parts and all is ok
Some will say you need a workshop or dealer stamp the book but i just sign it, and as you said ...am a qualified mechanic anyhow..
But i never had to claim warranty for anything, ever.. ( touch wood ) so never tested it.
But doesnt void warranty.. unless you leave the sump plug loose  then you may have trouble

You don't have to have it done by a qualified mechanic but it does have to be done by a legit business who carries out mechanical repairs.

i have done every service to my truck over 170 thou.
i have had a few warranty claims including clutch, injectors gearstick and my dealer tech has never questioned the service book as long as its all filled out ticked and signed.
other than change this and change that most of it says inspect .. inspect...
most people who drive there vehicle's a lot will be more aware of problems rearing there heads than joe blow who is draining your oil.
and we dont leave a mess either!
changing the brake fluid is a bit of a task
