How much for service?

Postby jcarter on Sat, 12 Jan 2008 12:31 +0000

funny that u mention it sr06, i have really felt that in the last month the steering has been getting really bad.
Sometimes it feels like there is nothing assisting, other times its ok.

don't know if its just me going crazy or not.

did you have any pre-cursors to yours going?

sr06

Mine goes in next Wednesday to have my steering pump repaired going to be off the road for the length of a piece of string, better than the transfer case that I first thought was the noise.

How much for service?

Postby wombat40 on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 6:37 +0000

Just had the 5000km service.

Got them to check:-
noisy engine - within spec :-)
virtually no hand brake - adjusted , MUCH better now
poor brakes - prob the rears after drum brake adjustment.

apart from that all good.

I did notice that the radio had been changed and a cd was put in, not that I mind, in fact quite the reverse - I've had $1800.00 worth of noise 'stuff' fitted, glad to see others enjoy it!

All up it cost $145.00

cheers

wombat,
how come you paid for the 5000 service, it should be for free, even if they did adjust all those things?

i would be furious if someone had been playing around with my new $1800 stereo!!! i bet if they blew a speaker they would deny touching it!!!!

Wow, that's all so cheap !

Looks like there's a difference in price depending on what dealer you go to as well.

My last service on the Volvo (XC70 -70K) was over $900 and the cheapest one was $380. :x

Who pays 70 odd bucks for 6.5L of oil? Toyota recommends Castrol RX Super which you can pick up for $90 from supercheap for 20 litres! I would be taking my own! We are changing fuel filters regularly too, as there have been several reports of injector pumps dying, and at around $8000 they aren't being covered by warranty. I did the 10k service on our SR5 last week and the fuel filter was filthy.

toyota's own oil i'm pretty sure is blended by caltex 20w/50 but still not 10 bucks a litre .
we only have to use the right grade with a cf4 rating.
i pay about 63 dollars for 10 litres of penrite hpr 15 diesel.
most of sr5's prices seem to be highly inflated really except the brake fluid where i think to change the brake fluid completely and the clutch cos they are the same resiviour would be more than 500 mls

Can you believe that Toyota Malaysia uses monograde SAE 40 oil for our Hilux?

Over here we use the Toyota's own brand for lubricants.

I actually use Toyota's 15w/50 multigrade mineral oil instead of the SAE40 monograde.

Those sissy idiots asked me why am I using a petrol engine oil when it is actually suitable for diesels too with a rating of CF for diesels and SL for petrol.

Cheers
