Changing Oil

Postby Smithyworld on Mon, 11 May 2009 1:11 +0000

Hi All

This is going to sounds stupid but although I have changed the oil on my trail bike a million times I have never done it in the Hilux. I want to do it this week.

Can someone please tell what I need to do? Where do I drain the oil? Is it as simple as removing a bolt somewhere, letting the oil drain out then replacing it with new oil? Is it stand motor oil for diesel or do I require something special?

Thanks Heaps!

simply remove oil filter, remove oil drain bung in sump, let oil drain. Fit new sealing washer to drain bung and retension. Fit new oil filter(lubricate rubber seal before fitting), and refill engine with appropriate oil. i use penrite hpr diesel 5

Can also help to pierce the filter with a screw driver to allow it to drain better when your letting it drain...

if you've got TJM under body guards, then you need a Fumuto.. stops the oil draining into the bash plates :)

http://www.fumoto.com.au/

i think it was the first thing i installed when i bought my lux.. heaps easier..

Steve,

Ive been looking for something similar to that for ages, since the oil draining all over the bashplate give me the craps :x

But Ive seen one like that before that has a hose hanging out an inch or so along with it....does this fumoto thing come with an option of a small hose on the end so when the oil is dripping towards the end of its drain cycle it does it past the bashplate and not behind it?

There's plenty of room mmaaxx, it does restrict the flow.

I normally fit a hose about 150mm long straight into an old oil drum and do something else while it drains.

If your in a hurry it would be a PITA.

I would imagine the local workshop's mechanic's would hate them.

I do my own changes so doesn't worry me.

I also put a cable tie around it for my piece of mind even thought it is out of the way above the bash plate.

They are a great idea, no mess. I used to allways get oil all over the driveway and me

F-103N is the (N)ipple version.. and yes they are a great idea.. they are hidden well up under the TJM bash plates, and I just push my hose onto the nipple and flick the lever to drain it.. then i take the hose off.. pretty simple.. and no mess..
