Have some pictures of the mod they have done. Not very happy that they have bolted the new bracket on. I'll be taking that up with them when it goes back to have the diff bearing's replaced next week. The service manager assured me it would be welded on

The bracket is bolted on in 2 places on each side, and the last pic shows how low it hangs down. The guard for the fuel tank is lower, so it shouldn't interfere with clearance

Looks like it's just hanging there waiting to catch branches that flick up and jam between the drive shaft and the bracket

exactly what I was thinking....that bracket looks like its easy enough to remove, cut the top end off abit, drill new holes and bolt it back up an inch higher.....could know something up like that at home with some steel plate!

hmm..so really all they've done is add a 'catch loop' ?? that to me isnt strengthening anything ?? it looks more like its there in case the rail does crak and the tailshaft falls that new bracket will stop it plowing into the ground..

not impressed with that at all.. I'll wait and see if anyone gets a complete rail replacement and see what that looks like...

Like someone said to me! these cars are capable of doin 200km\h and they put a pissy little bracket thats press welded on. On drag cars they put a chain under it just in case. Looks like they adopted that idea!

I have just got the recall letter. Only at the start of the year we had to replace the pinion bearing. Toyota came to the party with only 50% warranty to fix that. Can anyone tell me if I have grounds to claim the cost of that or if it is at all related?? :?:

Man that is shit. !!!

Have they actually strengthened any thing above as i cannot see properly in the photo's.

I could have done a better job in my home garage. I won't let them install that junk on by car, the first rock hit will rip the whole thing off.
All they have done is not fixing anything they have just stopped it hitting the gound. Another disapointment from Toyota. !!!

Well Looks like most of us are in agreement Toyota are not going to be fitting that xxxx rubbish useless bracket to our trucks,if they ordered a million of them they will have them in store for a long time.Just on another matter that centre chassi cross member is welded in just think of the butchery the dealer/installer could do to our trucks, cutting out the old cross member & welding in a new one. Most chassi manufacturers warn of very severe consequinces of welding anything to your chassi.ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT point if it is electrically welded just think of all that welding voltage (anywhere from 50 volts to 100 volts or more DC stray voltage) floating around your ECU,even your six stack CD player,& many other components in our vehicles of which some of which paticularly the ECU in which some of its circuits operate on about one tenth of a volt,& we think of electric welding using the voltage spoken about earlier.Old hands will say it is ok if you remove the negative battery strap before welding REALLY THEY HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING about that welding on any vehicles containing highly sensitive equipment, I suppose they might think the faults will come long after the warranty has run out.GAS welding no I dont think so all that heat localised on one chassi point mine & a lot of other trucks WILL NEVER get this bastardisation MR TOYOTA NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Anyone had a diesel up to 200km/h?
Besides down a mine shaft?

Not too many drag cars using chain as tailshaft loops any more, the universal steel hoops are too easy to install.

Just a note also. When you punch your vin number in it may come up as listing but the vin numbers also referances the bullbar brackets in the same recall. But it may come up as a recall but only be required for the bull bar brackets not the tailshaft loop/bracket recall. I found out thats why mine didnt have to get the mod done.

Thanks Drew and Oz thats very useful information about the bullbar recall. I was wondering about that. Will wait now for the letter from Toyota.

rang to book my 50k service in.asked about the prob and they said no its not affected when they looked it up. they rang back a bit later saying they looked it up else where and said it is affected but theres no parts for a while which means another visit and another 3hr apparently. so there only putting a tailshaft loop in to catch the problem. ill make my own fix.

Yeh i thought the press release said they were welding support brackets on to strengthen it and prevent cracking and if alrady cracked replacing the crossmember.... must have decided its cheaper just to bolt in a catch loop just in case lol

Toyota's press release is BS. My new SR5 was built in May. Just out of curiosity, I checked the link provided regarding the recall and bugger me, mine is covered by this recall !!
When were Toyota going to advise me ?? Today is 5th Oct. and I have had SFA from them. I may get them to check when they rectify the auto trans oil heating problem every time the truck has to do a very light bit of work !!
This is the first Hilux SR5 for me and up to now, I can't say I am filled with confidence about its quality and capability. Hope time and more use will prove me wrong.

Hey nate i posted earlier on. Mine is a Feb build 2010 SR5. When i inputed my Chassis number it also came up under the recall. As i hadnt actually purchassed the vehicle when i found out about it i told Toyota and they checked and innitially wouldnt sell me the truck until it had been recified. Under further investigation with my detail via the deallership through head office, they found mine wasnt effected under that recall. As a saftey precaution mine had showed it was listed and it was only on the recall for the factory steel bull bar if i had fitted it. They put it in writing for me via a printout showing only the bull bar was the only recall for my truck.

This may be the same for your truck Tinner.
