Thou i did have to go back to get the recall done before "toyota" would process the claim.

Airbag clock spring

Postby Mattya on Sat, 18 Jun 2011 6:01 +0000

It's Perth, you get piss poor service at most places. Just keep trying different dealers untill one comes to the party. A workmate used to work at narrogin Toyota and said every vehicle is entitled to one clock spring under warranty.

^^^^ Hmmm,

have just had this problem arise on my 06 SR5 (125000km). Have a full service history with Scarboro Toyota but they wanted to charge the thhe ususal $700 odd so I suggested they could shove it.

After reading this I will be getting back in touch with them. Will let you know how I go.

UPDATE: Got in touch with my Toyota dealer this morning. Asked to speak to the service manager straight off the bat. Explained that I had a broken clock spring, diagnosed by them, and that they had offered to fix it for the usual fee of $700 odd which I declined. I said I had since done my homework and discovered that it was a widspread problem that has been largely fixed as an out of warranty repair by many other dealers.

He has taken my details and that of the car (model mileage etc.) and is putting in a claim to Toyota nationally and said he "seemed to feel there was a good chance of them honouring it." Just a shame they dont offer this to you first up when you have the problem rather than having to do your own detective work first.

Will update in the next couple of days with the outcome.

Final Update:

Just got a call for the delaer. 100% cost of replacement approved by Toyota australia. This was through Scarborro Toyota in Ossie Park in WA. Basically took no more than a call to the service manager and then a submission by them to Toyota Australia or approval.

If you bought from a dealer in WA oir have it serviced by a dealer, probabaly best to start with them and follow the same process. No reason why you shouldnt get the same answer.

^^^ Yeah Brendon,

bigs ups to this forum. Combined savings to memebers on this item would be fairly significant by now I imagine. Info is greatly appreciated. I would also think the toyota people would be well aware of the forum and well aware of the weight of evidence behind them trying to decline an individual claim.

Put my Hilux in at Albany for the recall re.factory roo bar and something uderneath, they fixed the clock spring without any hesitation and were extremely pleasant about doing it.It's good not seeing that red light out of the corner of my eye.Glad I had a look at this site, very informative. Thanks

Airbag clock spring

Postby MarkYounger on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 9:26 +0000

I'm going to the dealer today to pick up bushings. Last time I was in mentioned to the parts guy my SRS light was on he said "oh yeah I know what that is" (rough translation) I have an 06 201000 km. The closest dealer is 1.5 hours away and as I understand it there are only 3 in country and all owned by the same family. If they cover the part I could fix it. Anyone had this problem fixed out of OZ?

Airbag clock spring

Postby MarkYounger on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 6:18 +0000

I reckon NZ counts. Although I am guessing Latin America is gonna be different, it still gives me hope. I'm gonna wait for my boss to go with me he is good buddies with everyone in there. Just bought a troopie and a d4d van there.

hey guys First of all Great information on the clock spring.

A couple of months ago i called up my dealer and they told me 850. Can't really afford to dish out 850 at the time so its been left since.

I've got a 05 sr5 with 145,000.

Has anyone got an out of warranty repair on the clock spring in melbourne? if so which dealer?

i thought it might be easier if i go to the same dealer.

Cheers Robbie
