Diesel Gas Conversion

Anyone had this done to thier new 'Lux?
I've seen a couple on the web that indicate about 15% power and torque improvement and similar improvements in economy.
Cost is about $4,200 but you get $2,000 back from the federal govt. If you are in WA the State govt will give a further $1,000 back.

Wouldn't mind getting it in my 'Lux. The power and particularly the torque would be handy when fully loaded on a trip. Rather get some more feedback from people who have had it done first though.

I have a friend who has done it to his GQ 4.2 Turbo Diesel tractor, has made a huge improvement, reckons it drives like the petrol motor now. No turbo lag etc, but that's a patrol..... I don't think anyone on here has had the gas conversion done yet... but for $1000 I reckon it's worth it (just wish I had room for a gas tank!)

If you do this, do you then have a truck that will run on both and you can switch between diesel and gas whic will therefore be like a long range tank as well? Or do you lose the diesel capability?

I think it works in conjunction with each other...like 5 or 10 % LPG mixed with the deisel... not sure how its done... but been told on other cars its like putting your diesel on nitro.....TOMUCH

Yes, the gas is mixed with the diesel. The idea is that with diesel alone you nly about 80 or 85% of the fuel is burnt in the engine. The rest is burnt up in the exhaust and some might be blown out the back as black smoke. Aparantly by mixing a bit of gas, the burn rate in the engine goes up to about 98%. This is where the improved power and torque comes from.

They install a gas tank of about 1/3 the capacity of the fuel tank. Some companies strap or bolt them onto the side of the chassis rail, but the tank can go anywhere. Remember it is only a small tank. Though as I have a 140 litre LRT, I would ideally need a 45 litre gas tank which is much bigger.

If you run out of gas the vehicle keeps running on diesel. You just lose the benefits of the gas for that time.
