Old thread but just wondering how the 445 was going and if any water had showed up yet !

Did you go for the 10 micron filter in the end and if so how dirty is it getting compared to the factory one?

Just about to invest some hard earned into one of these but going with the optional light and buzzer for water detecting! cheers mate

i used the 230R not the 445R.

So far no sign of water yet ..............

Using 10 micron filter for the Racor.

Have not changed the filter yet.

My maintenance schedule is 10,000kms for the Racor and 20,000kms for the Toyota fuel filter.

Well, that's the plan anyway.

I changed the Racor fuel filter yesterday.

I installed it at 123k kms and changed it at 135k kms. Mileage 12k kms.

As the Racor filter is not 100% dirty, I think I can go with a change interval of 15k kms.
Next change at 150k kms

I will change the original Toyota fuel filter tomorrow and see how dirty it is since the Racor was installed.

As you can see from the pictures, the Racor R20T 10 micron filter is not completely dirty at 12,000 kms.

I am happy with the Racor as the primary filter and will stick with the 10 micron.
Tomorrow, we will see how dirty the original Toyo filter is as the final filter.

If the original Toyo is not too dirty, the replacement schedule for the Toyo filter could be extended.

Sweet mate, would love to see the genuine filter when you change that out too. Just wondering how dirty it gets when using the prefilter before it...

Also did your clear drain bowl have anything in it like debris or water globules at all?

Here are the pictures for the original Toyo fuel filter.

They don't look too bad after 12k kms with the Racor acting as the primary filter and the Toyo as the final/secondary filter.

I think I will change both filters at 15k kms intervals to be on the safe side.

so bringing the trusty old fuel talk back to the top.

im going to bite the bullet and install a 445R as a pre filter before the toyo one (the 445R has high flow and low resistance, so this seems like the one, plus has a hand primer).

some of you have installed 1 way valves?, is this needed?

No not needed and neither is a hand primer, ditch that and save yourself $80. I installed a wix which is basically the same thing. Mine is rated for 308lts/hour, also installed the light and a buzzer 8-) 8-)

Have you got any pics of this, plus specs and details of price and where to get it?

I'm torn between the "water watch" which has no filter but has a buzzer, and the racor which has a filter but no buzzer.

I'm chasing something with both to install from new.

Here is another one to consider that has a filter and an alarm

http://www.dieselcare.com.au/fuel-manager-filter

Personally I dont see the point in fitting a unit without an alarm as you will still get damage from water ingress as you will not know it is there, not sure whether a second filter is a good idea or not either, filteration is not a problem in the standard system, water ingress is the issue and a second filter does not stop that.
The Waterwatch systems are very good I hear as well

Alby, there is a glass bowl on the bottom of mine with the water sensor in it . Basically if you get water in there it will set of the alarm, which i got the auto elec to wire up using a seperate led light (as the one that came with it was large and cumbersome.) and a piezo buzzer that is as loud as all f#*k . So loud even a woman should shit herself :? :? :? Its not the stopping the water that i was worried about , more so a reasonable amount of time to safely pull up. Bluehilux, i am just pulling my finger out about photos and a build :? , but it was a FM 100 stanadyne water sensor filter unit , using a 10 micron wix filter. Cost, around the sameish as a racor,(280 mark ,i think) and got it from local (sells every thing) shop in town. I do have a number for there rep in Albury if that will help you :?: :?: PM me if you need it 8-)

Oggy that is the same one as in my link , FM100.
Your setup sounds good, I am just tossing up whether to have the second filter as well
The reason being is when traveling in remote areas that is another spare part to carry and my other concern would be if you accidently dropped and broke the glass bowl doing a change you could be in trouble. Just a potential downside, maybe over thinking it though??

Like this:

http://www.dieselcare.com.au/images/sto ... ion-S3.pdf

I love the retrofit bracket, solves a lot of dramas.

Also an alarm option available, so you get a filter and alarm.

30mic filter if used as a pre filter, 2mic if used as a secondary.

I'm going to trial this on the 06 work hilux, and if it's all good I'll fit one to my new one (if it ever arrives).
