4" lift = Alot of problems!!??

4" lift = Alot of problems!!??

Postby mac55 on Sun, 14 Jun 2015 11:00 +0000

Hi guys

Ive had my 2014 extra cab lux for a bit over a year, had 2" coil spacers and 33s however im now doing more serious 4wding not just beach work.

So i have installed a 4" lift from superior including Custom UCAs profender adjustable shocks (height) 2" dobensons springs, sway bar relocators and extended shackles. Also a snake racing diff drop kit that i already had.

Problems
- Upper control arms hit on the spring still (was under the impression custom arms would fix this)
- Sway bar relocation has caused the sway bar to be hitting and on the chassis hard and is making the loudest steel on steel spueeling
- CV angles look bad still and the rubber boot of cv touchs on the bottom strut mount.

Attached are photos of my truck at 2" lift using coil spacers and the rest are of my problems and were taken with the truck on the ground (not on jack)

Zero down travel, looks to me more than 4" but I'm known to be dyslexic at times..

This is mine with 2+2 on 315/75's though, fixed the nose down syndrome..

Hahaha tell me about it!

Kind of thinking its more than 4" also, is 2+2 mean 2" lift 2" bodylift because your rig looks massive!

Im about to put the extended shackles in and than wind the front down till its level and remove the sway bar relocaters. Annoying that ive spent all this extra money to not acheive much!!

To get the ideal amount of clearance, you'd only go a 2" suspension lift then add a bodylift and much larger tyres.
Due to CV angles you can only go so much before you really have to drop the front diff, which negates any extra lift you'd get over 2".
The bodylift is only so you can fit much larger tyres - obviously the bigger the tyre, the more bodylift needed. Trimming the front guards might also be necessary (and relocating the bodymount just behind the front tyres)

Regear to offset the larger rolling diameter.

Just trim those brackets that your sway bar is hitting. That's what I have done. Or remove them all together. All it is doing is extra support for the radiator and I'm pretty sure if you look at the prado's they don't have this bracket

Awesome thanks for the input, the back lift is now in and i wound the front down an inch the uca's are much happier and the cvs marginally better but the cv boot now clears. And is sitting pretty level maybe a bit higher in the front wich is what i wanted!

Ive removed the sway bar relocators so far but i might look at trimming those brackets 06lux did you have to cut much? or just 5 or 10mm?

I have a 1" body lift kit might have to add that aswell :D ill put up a pic of todays results tomorrow.

Also for anyone wondering how far to wind up profender coil overs, i have 70mm of thread showing underneath. 80mm seems to be a no go zone.

Yeah those diff drop spacers don't archive much. You really need the full monster rides relocation kit.
Also they now supply revised sway bar relocators which are much thinner, so it does not touch that support.

I would wind this thing down as well. Try to get it as close to 3" as possible.
Do a bodymount chop and trim the inner guards/flare to make the tyres fit.

Our diff relocation kit will help... UCA droop limiters as well.

Feel free to drop me a email to discuss any of these products

Thanks Matt i think ill be looking into the droop limiters soon as i keap hearing the uca touch the spring over bumps.

Took it out for a forby around the back of caloundra (sunshine coast) cvs seemed fine? When funds permit ill look into MR diff drop. I might have to see if i can get my money back from superior for the sway bar relocators and get MR aswell

Heres a pic of how its sitting now with the front wound down a bit. Aslo does anyone know an easier way to wind down coilovers or you have to compress the spring everytime?

How did you fix the nose down problem?

I also have a profender 4 inch lift kit with remote resavour shockers. Superior engineering had the drop diff kit and sway bar relocators I must admit mine does not look as bad as yours not you TRD luxxy haha

But I am having the trouble of the nose down :/

I have adjustable coilovers, wound them up until the ute is level.

Front 3" and 2" rear.

mine to is adjustable coilovers on the front, im gunna just try wind them up more hopefully don't get coil binding.

I rang snake racing and talked to them about it they suggest if it binds coils when going up, they suggest backing it off and fitting a strut spacer. Im not real keen on fitting strut spacers but if worse comes to worse then I will

Also how much roughly did it cost for you to get the 2 inch body lift done? Was you bulbar fitted prior the body lift
reason I ask is I have a bulbar, winch, rear bar. it will all have to be moved up higher to go with the body lift

you have fitted 305?? or 315 tyres how did you accomplish this as the tyres are bigger so the gaurds would need some chopping? how do you go as far as compression ect. bush work

Also the gear ratio you are running? Are different air lockers required for different sized wheels? I suppose they make air lockers for the ratio of the diff gears haha

When you say 70mm showing from under Neath which part are you talking about?

I have just wound mine up from the bottom of the spring to the lowest point if the thread is 70mm however with the nut under the spring it's 60mm and with the 2nd nut under that it will be 50mm so which Underneath you referring to ?
