brulux,

Did you have any problems with the new Bilstein dampers since you are running standard coil springs and leafs?

I'm concerned as I wonder if this part numbers are too long on standard suspension.

Thanks
Cheers

I have just run into the Bilstein tech rep today wilst at work and he has confirmed that they have developed a specific Hilux shock, they have been doing R&D on the TRD Hilux.
He said to keep the original springs and replace shocks only, you get the 2'lift in the front from the adjustable seat on them. I have ordered a set but they are out of stock at present. East Coast suspension at Kirrawee are installing for me.

Alby,

Are the part numbers you ordered the same as posted above?

brulux, I had King springs in my XR6 and was very happy with them. I wanted to go with Kings, but when I spoke to ATS, they advised they were happier with the performance of Ridepro's even though it was easy for them to get Kings. I also have couple of friends running Ridepro and they were really happy with them so I decided to give it a shot. Also they are Australian designed and made to suit our conditions so that was another reason I went with it.

As for Ridepro, I'm sure a shipment can be arranged for a resonable cost so don't let that stand in your way. Maybe others can comment on Ridepro.

9W6VX,

I am not aware of the part numbers but he told me they are not the same as the Prado ones, these are specifically designed for the Lux

Just need you to confirm your above post. Am I reading it correctly when you say that to get the 2" lift you only need to replace the standard shocks with the new Bilsteins while leaving in the original Toyota springs ? This seems a bit unusual, won't this create some sort of a problem as I would have thought the springs would now be too short?

I am not experienced in this type of thing but the way I understand it is that the standard Lux shock has a the seat (or shoulder might be a better description) that supprts the spring welded in position, the Bilstein shocks have knotches up the sleeve that allows them to lift the seating position higher to get the lift and the shocks are longer than the standard to compensate for the additional length required(which also will give them more travel.
I don't know if I have explained that correctly or not but I am not up to speed with all the correct technical jargon.

I have just recieved a call from the dealer that my new Lux is in and they are going to start fitting up my accessories tomorrow.
I am getting as much done including the suspension upgrade through Toyota so that I don't have any warranty issues. I will post some pictures when I get it

All clear now, I should have given it a little more thought, still it probably won't be the last dumb question I ask!
