Troyco, how high is your rear at 25 psi and how much higher at 50 psi?

Rich.

Raised rear = adjust load valve

Postby TOMUCH on Thu, 10 Jan 2008 12:27 +0000

Guys I ahve been giving this some thought whilst driving around the country... If the bar is adjusted up near the top and you bottom out will it bend the rod...if its made longer.... OK well I have (at work) some gas struts that are somwhat weak(they are brand new just not very powerful) they re used on the accerater linkage on trucks for when the exhaust brake is applied the fuel rack can be moved into the no fuel position... OK.. I was thinking of grafting one of these into my rear bark bar.. that way it wil always be at the right hight(adjusted manually) and if I bottom out or drop into a ditch and have a big movment of the rear end, it wont bend the rod, just collapse the strut for a second....without bending... has anyone that has extended tier rod bent it at all??? Shane308???? Cheers TOMUCH.... Maybe I think TOMUCH...lol

TOMUCH, i thought about it bottoming out but the valve lever is pretty long and i thought it would probly flex a fair way before it acually bent. since extending mine i've been back to bendethra with a bit of gear in the back and also towed a loaded car trailer a couple hundred kays that had the back down a fair bit, and it hasn't bent it as yet. cheers

Rich, at 50 psi and no load there is more than a 50mm lift . I have adjusted the valve level a bit and this has had a positive effect when empty. I will check next week with a decent losd on.

If I mention this problem to the ARB fellas when I get my lift done, will they adjust and check my rear brakes for me?

Or is this being a little presumptuous. I just seems strange that they would do a lift on your car then allowing you to drive off knowing full well that you don't have any effective rear brakes at all!!

Broke,
ARB are not doing anything with the issue of the shudder that raised auto hilux's get and from my talking to them are unaware of the issue, so I would dout they would do anything with the rear brakes.

Would be worth while asking the question.

Mine has been lengthened to the end of the standard rod by swapping the nuts around and the brakes are great.

No issue's.

i asked the blokes at ARB the other day and they were'nt aware of the problem, but then until it was bought to my attention on this forum neither was i so i spose what they do with the information now that they know is what matters.

It all comes down to the individual working on the car and weather they are lucid or have enough personal integrity to bother doing a good job.

I had a bad experience, doesn't mean all franchises are bad, but don't be surprised what can happen.

Also, thanks to everyone as I now notice the shudder in my Auto everytime I take off!!
Bugger.

sorry to bring up an old topic but when i got my lift done yesterday, straight away i noticed that the brakes were not working as well. is it possible for you guys to put up some of the photos that were origionally here as they have dissapeared since the change of server. i would like to play around with it a bit as i am not happy with the current braking as it doesnt feel safe. if it is easier you could email the photos to me, it would save shrinking photos etc, it would be appreciated...let me know if you want my email address...Glenn

Raised rear = adjust load valve

Postby Macca on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 3:19 +0000

Glen, I can't find a photo for you. The simple answer is if your vehicle is raised by 50mm the fixing point of the horizontal rod has to be raised by 50mm on the verticle rod. The horizontal run across the front of the spare tyre from the valve on the passenger side to the verticle rod on the drivers side of the diff.
That thread has to be extended by what ever means as it wont be long enough standard.
I have removed the verticle rod completely and tied the horizontal up to the tub with some cable ties and have had no trouble at all. The brakes are better but I believe they are still crap. My work hiaces have much better brakes than my ute and they are allways loaded.
