a good start is
http://www.americanracing.com/carfigurator/

its for the american market of cars but it'll give you some choices. All of these wheels can be imported and most picked up at standard tire dealers,,,,

How did you guys go finding some different rim options? I am going through the same thing now. I have a new lux due in 4 weeks and need to have sorted out.

This is a great web site.

Yo! I put on a set of ROH 5-spoke 16x7" mages, cost about $240 each. Pretty easy to get and not too bad on the pocket really. They look much better than the standard ones.

Thanks for the heds up. I am thinking that 16 inch is the way to go with a set of BFG TA 's as a good allrounder

New rims?

Postby JHuelin on Thu, 12 Jul 2007 7:34 +0000

Hey mate :) Little bit of food for thought, when i bought my new wheels i found that the 15" rims were a little cheaper, however the tyres for a 16" rim were cheaper than those for a 15". And i rekon the 16's look much better than the 15s on the hilux. I think it works out around the same price in the end :) Depends on what your after i guess, but the RTX is what i put on mine, so if you want to see what they look like check my profile 8-) Also, i tried to get them in a 16x8 but apparently its a special order and harder to get, bumped the price up $40 per rim

New rims?

Postby Hilux Max on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 4:46 +0000

Just found out that 80 series offset wheels work with the new hilux's with a lift. ATS 4x4 in geelong is fitting 16x8 with their 3" lift comfortable with this offset with 265's which they spaces the wheels abit wider apart and with 285's you need to remove the front mudflap. Thats also with their 3" lift.

Spoke to Pro Comp today and they said ATS had fitted one of their chrome mags in 15x8 to the new hilux. So my job now is to ring em tomorrow and find out which mag they fitted in 15x8 and find if theres a matching black steel rim that can fit aswell. If so, then Im sold and putting 32/11.5x15 Maxxis Bighorns on the 15x8's. Should take the tyre to just under or just past the edge of the flares and look tough.

Will let you know how I go tomorrow after I call them.

8-)

New rims?

I have found suitable 16x8 Rims that I like, the Tyre shop is recommending a set of Cooper ATR 265 70 16 to go with them. Does anyone know if I could fit a bigger tyre than this without rubbing?. I don't have a lift kit.

I put a 265/75/16 on mine with a 2" lift and it doesnt rub. However i think you will have problems on the front especially without a lift. I'm not really all that confident you should go any bigger than standard without a lift...

JHuelin, are your rims 16x7 or 16x8?
And if they are 16x8, then how close to the edge of the flare do the tyres sit when the wheels are straight ahead?

Mine are a 16x7, the 16x8's were a bit of a hassle to get and about 30 bucks more each. When my wheels are straight ahead my tyres are just inside the guards. But i think you would find 16x8's would be inside the guards fine too. I would have gone with an 8" rim too personally, but as i said, harder to get on a hilux offset. If you went for the 80 series cruiser offset rims you might have more luck and i believe they would still fit just fine 8-)

Thanks for the advice JHuelin. I was just wanting to get more of the mongrel look with more rubber (like yours) but I dont want to have dramas and at this stage are not contemplating a lift.

New rims?

Postby JHuelin on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 8:20 +0000

Well, just something else you could consider. My dad has a standard SR with aftermarket flares on the front and wanted some beefier wheels on it. He got himself a set of mags from about a 2000 model SR5 or so (its a 3-spoke looking thing) I'll try and find a picture for ya. But yeah, they are significantly wider than standard, either a 7.5 or 8" and fill up his guards really well. Overall the tyres are only a smidgen bigger in diameter but the extra offset on the rims and the wider tyres really beef up the look of the car. I believe he got the wheels with a set of Wrangler MTR's on them all for less than a grand second hand. I would personally wait until you do a lift to go to a larger diameter tyre, but doing what i suggested above would give you extra width without scrubbing for sure :)

New rims?

Postby Hilux Max on Sat, 14 Jul 2007 4:49 +0000

Ive purchased some rims for my hilux. After plenty of hair pulling trying to decide whether to go black sunnies for practicality or whether to go bling, Ive succumbed to the temptation of bling. Ive never had bling rims on any car/truck before so why the hell not? heres what I got -

in 16x8 for a bargain price. should arrive next week and now to try and source some nice muddies to suit.
