Bourbydol......if its 255's your after...theres a thread dedicated to them in the tyre section....might be on page two...heaps of info relating to them on there....you will need new wheels, +25 is not offset enough and with the tyre diameter will foul on the sway and more than likely on the edge of the UCA....the 265 being 31.8" diamter comes in under the UCA......search that thread for more info.

I have a 2inch OME lift kit. Will it be possible to run 285's on black sunnies 16x8?

Would i heave enough clearance?

Or would it be better to have gone with a 3 inch lift?

thought i'd just post up my quick fix as an add on of mmaaxx's edition for fitting the 285/75's with a 3inch lift, just note the flares are stock sr5 flares so may be slightly different shape under the guards compared to other types.

First i cut a chunk of the flares using a stanly knife, doesn't look the cleanest from inside the guards but unoticable from outside:



Then pull back the black plastic and you'll see the pitchwall so beat the sh## out of this untill its flat against the wall:


Then using an blow touch on a cold flame i heated the plactice and molded it back in position:


Finished and with a good wheel allignment should be fine for town driving, (in my case i still hit the body mount offroad, although mmaaxx was able to get away with it):


I have since chopped the body mounts, as i was getting to much uptravel and will post this up later when i can find the pics

Marshwa, have you thought of putting a spacer under the bump stop to limit the uptravel slightly?

I wasn't thinking about touching the mount, I was reffering to the tyre touching the upper guard under full compression......thats why I extended my bump stop, not for the mount but for the guards....might remove them thou after the bodylift....wont have a problem with the tyre touching the top of the guard then.

ahh ok sorry, yeh well i still rub the upper guards when driving hard offroad, i think i will have to go an aftermarket bump stop to prevent it, but for the time being its fine as its just rubbing on a smooth surface and its not cuasing to much trouble.

Firstly appologies for dragging up a 6 month old thread but I'm planning my build up atm and was wondering if anyone on 33s would know ( I'm looking at you Marshwa ) would UCAs help to avoid cutting to get 0 offset rims on with 285s if the lift was only 2 inches of suspension - the rest as a body lift . Is this enough height to pull it forward and still get factory caster specs ? I will have a ARB sahara bar , so should be too much cutting at the front .

now worries mate, the mods will be thrilled you dug up an old thread rather then start a new one.

As for the combination of 2" suspension and 2" body, i no that this will clear you of cutting the gurads as much as i have, but i am really unsure of how you will go advoiding the actual body mount.

I bought the control arms hopeing it would eliminate the chances of having to cut the mounts but i couldn't find a tyre place that would then adjust my castor to suit and still had troubles at full flex, and in the end a chop was the simplest solution. Although at the time not alot of people new much about how to get a good wheel allignment on the lux's.

Your best bet would be to try get in touch with people who are running the same set up your after and see if they were able to scrape through, i no Twisty is runny 2"+2" and has 33's and maybe some other members will see this and jump in. But i can't guarentee you'll be 100% safe mate, sorry.

i've read most of this site while waiting for my hilux to arrive ( ordered in dec - at the dealer now ) and could not find anyone who has used UCAs at less than 3 inches of lift .Twistys running 2" + 3" with no UCAs but he also has neg offset and bigger tyres so not the same setup as I'm looking at . Might just have to try it and see if it works...

you can use UCA's with less than 3" of lift, but the reason not many have is because of the cost of aftermaket UCA's.

UCA's will give you more room on the inner side of your tyre so you could run a more positive offset wheel and keep it more tucked inside the guards and away from that mount.....some like the stance and width that a more negative offset wheel provides...each to their own, let us know how you go.

At 2" getting caster is not a problem but it can be at 3". Tufflux Offroad (whose UCA's are sold by Monster Rides) told me they really were designed for 3" lift. However, I am sure you would benefit by the better clearance which would allow you to run a lesser offset than Twisty does which in turn will help with clearance on the body mount when turning.

New to forum so excuse the maybe already asked question but, what do I have to do to fit 33" tyres under an 08 hilux. I currently have 31" tyres and a 50mm old man emu lift. I don't want the tyres to rub.

3inch lift and a body lift will = no scrubbing
3inch lift will= scrubbing

heres mine with a 3inch tough dog lift and a 2inch body lift, no rubbing dude

Just wondering if you've lifted your side-steps or are these still in the original position mann?

I've been thinking about putting in a body lift before I do a suspension/tyre lift but was concerned I'd need to remove the OEM steps or put on some custom rock sliders straight away.

stick your head underneath and you'll see the steps are mounted off brackets attached to the body....body goes up...steps go up too
