Need something to get you rolling?

do gu patrol steel wheels fit

Postby tgibbo on Sat, 03 Jan 2009 6:01 +0000

my question is , has anyone tried to fit a gu patrol rim to there hilux, i want to know whether they hit the calaper or not, as i want to go up to a 16" rim for more legal tyre sizes and they are a cheap alterative to mag wheels

Yes they do....one of the members on here has em as a second set with 265 muddies on them.

I beleive they are a zero offset 16x8 aswell.

If you can get em at a good price, Id go for em.

If the genuine Patrol 16x8 rims have a zero offset (as do 80 series andd 105 series), what offset does the steel 16x6 and alloy 15x7 on the current Hilux have? It's not listed on the website and my poor local salesmen haven't a clue.

The15x7's have a Postive 30 offset, and I beleive the 16x6 has a positive 40mm, but not 00% sure on the 16x6. someone else may need to chime in on that one.

I have a set of 16" (x 7" I think) Patrol steelies with 256/75/R16 Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. They definately have a decent positive offset (not sure exactly as they are currently on the ute) as they stick out further than the alloys I have. Only the front right tyres seems to scrub against the support that ataches the A Pillar to the chassis, and the inner guard at the same spot. And this only happens under compression with the wheel turned, and doesn't even scrub much.

I'm very happy with the setup, I have plans to strip the tyres off and clean up the rims and give them a paint... Black of coarse.

No matter what steps/bar you buy you will bend it. I've gotta get some pics for a new thread about my recent day out, the panel beater reckons he needs to pull the canopy and tray off just to see if it can be fixed!! Just the ARB gear that needs replacing comes to over $3000!!!

The steel wheels I have have some dents and big scrapes but it hasn'e affected their performance, they actually balance betterwith the MTR's than my alloys do with AT's.

tgibbo, now you know I bought the SR :) and have taken my side steps off pending sliders :)
Lately Lux, I heard the ARB stuff bends, particularly the side rails. I will get to the sliders one day, just so much to do.

I agree with the ARB gear. Spwing I didnt wait abit to get sliders made up.

driving down corrugated roads, I stuck me head out the window and saw how much flex it has..... :o

I thought they were supposed to be solid!

Might even have a try at making my own sliders one day.

Geez you guys are keen!!

I'm just waiting for the insurance quotes to repair the ute tub. When I get the quote I will be going out to Wizard Performance for a quote on a full custom stubby rear tray. Don't need all that storage anymore so want something that will look and be tough. There will be less to damage on the back then too.

So the ARB stuff bends! I was lining up for their bar and rails for the new 'Lux because it's supposed to be the best. I've got their gear on a 79 series and 100 series Landcruisers atm. Sounds like I should make it myself?
