What cv's does he use?


If you lift tray enough you could sit a 35 on top of chassis rails under the tray with a trap door system. You would still have room for a custom water tank under there as well.

Here's a shot of under the tray, not the best shot but ya kinda get the idea.I can't see it working for me as such, would like a massive fuel tank and a massive water tank under there though hahaha like the buds fuel tank set up, the filler on mine only kinda fits in front of the rear wheels. But that's all off topic.

If you work for the police or vic roads pretend ya didnt see my number plate... There not 35's they're just ah, deceivingly big legal 31's :lol:

If it wasnt for that factory crossmember under the tray a 35 would fit easily in that spot.

But lifting the tray too high just to fit a 35" spare under it I think is silly, as your COG will increase heaps and affect handeling when loaded up on a trip.

I always beleive in keeping things as low as possible whilst ensuring it all works....

That's it, if I lift the tray too much it looks obviously high too. Draws attention, may lift it an inch or so for more up travel if it ever becomes as issue. Think my leaves look flat? Haha

That bloke doing the prado rear, them links (or control arms that run under the rear axle) look pretty vulnerable don't you think?

I would rather carry the spare tyre ON the tray than have it sitting there and not being able to raise the towbar.

That towbar is hindering departure angle quite abit.

Nice unit thou...I beleive it was for sale recently.

Anyone tried 315/75/16 km2's.... Heard they are only 34 inches when mounted on a 8 inch rim.
Need a new set of boots and they look all so tempting.

Depends on brand of tyre, not the size printed on the side.

My Bighorns are a narrow 35. closer to 34.5 x 11.7 when new and inflated on the wheels.

MTZ's are slightly smaller

MTR's run closer to true size.

your best bet if possible is to measure up the size of tyre you wnat on the rim/fitted and see what works.

Never rely on the stated size on the sidewall or the companys webpage. rarely are they the same as real world.

315/75r16 bfg all terrain are skinny as shit on a 8" rim.

Unfortunately I have a set on my patrol which im replacing with new tires tonight.
I reken they would fit on a hilux easy.

Just gonna bump this up and spur some more discussion.

In my opinion, I think when running 35's (especially on a daily driven hilux), the fitment of a rear ARB locker benefits the longevity of the rear drivetrain.

How?

Because when not locked you are driving an open rear diff, effectvely a single-spinner.

Even thou this causes the inside tyre/wheel to spin much easier when powering through corners, I think the elimination of the LSD removes that extra amount of load that could strain the rear diff and cause something to break on bitumen.

Just my opinion.....I really miss my LSD on the road, but I think the single spinner setup helps the reliability of things back there.

Anyone else feel the same?

Agreed, in stock form during a tight turn you can feel shuddering in the rear with 35s I no longer get this which I'm not sure why either its lost through the tyres or something else. Will be doing a re-gear and fitting lockers in the near future.

I agree also but has anyone blown a diff or snapped a axle in the rear of a new Hilux?

I've run 35s for 18 months now and had a auto locker in the rear for probably 10 months, without a re gear either!

I drive pretty hard, some would say like a idiot haha on and off road, ie letting the locking smack on and off through corners and I'm not opposed to few fishy's in the wet or on the dirt!

Don't get me wrong once 4wd is engaged and my front locker on, I am very aware of my cv's and I try too be gentle.

I think our rear Diffs are pretty tough is what I'm trying to say, probably worth noting too, my original factory cvs started getting noisy when I was last out for a 4by and I changed them. Didn't have one blow just a bit clunky, they had done 120,000 k's. They'll be good for a emergency replacement still.

Having a debate with a guy on face book. His claiming he has 35inch tyre on his dual cab with a tub with only a 2 inch lift in the front no lift in the back. Can this be true I don't see it happening at all.

Supposedly a 2012 with 2 inch in the front to make it sit level. Fitted with 35s. The rear looks like it is higher then standard.
Bigfoot you've just done the 35s what do you think?
