15 inch rims V 16 inch

15 inch rims V 16 inch

Postby yesman on Tue, 20 Sep 2011 10:44 +0000

I'm looking at ditching the 16 inch rims/mags (from my 08) and tyres as I cannot get them balanced properly. I can probaly get a good deal on a set of new 15 inch Toyota rims from a new SR5 (2011)with tyres from someone who put mags on theirs. Was wondering - what's the positives if any or megatives of running 15 inch on an SR. Do they look much smaller?

First post - thanks

visibly there is almost no way of telling that they are 1" smaller than the 16's, i went from 16 to 15 and cant tell at all and i personally really like the look of the sr5 rims. with the 15's though alot of the tyres that fit on them have less load rating than tyres on 16's. There is also a difference in the rim offset. the sr rims are about -45 where the sr5 are -30 i think. other than that there isnt much difference.

Hi mate,
Pretty sure stock SR rims are +30 offset but I'm not sure what the SR5 rims are also you'll find there's a lot more options of suitable tyre's in 16" vs 15".

I recently tried to fit a set of 15x8 sunnys on my 06 SR, they hitting on the brake caliper - meant i couldnt buy that particular set of wheels...also meant that i had to go and buy a set of 16 inch rims... $45/corner for a 15inch sunny, $100/corner for 16inch sunny...crazy how 1 inch can add so much to the cost!

In your case i think other things like whether or not you have / intend on lifting?
Cheers

what 15x8 rims did you get. because i got some black steel 0 offset 15x8" rims from monster rides that fit wonderfully and there is at least 5mm between the rim and brake calliper.

They were a 15x8 -22 offset sunraysia, yours fit nicely? We couldnt even do the wheel nuts up the full way - i now have 16x8 with 0 offset and iv only got prob 5mm between rim and calliper :?:

if you look at this thread it will go through that this company designs their rims differently so that they do fit

Have just trialed two 2011 SR5 tyres & rims on the front of my 2008 SR. Seems close to brake calipers but no contact. Runs perfectly, no out of balance shake, a different vehicle.

15" rims on 2012 SR Hilux

Postby SupremeHilux on Fri, 12 May 2017 5:40 +0000

Hi Guys
Been reading n scratching around for a few months now. Really impressed as to the amount of information on here.
However, I cannot for the life of me find a straight answer as to whether 15" rims will fit on a 2012 Sr Hilux.
I was 100% sold on picking me up some 32"s 11.5 r 15's as many others had done but the bloke at the tire shop soon brought me back down to reality, cause he recons they won't clear the brake caliper.
I'm pretty sure the face-lift models with ESC got bigger brakes, but i'm pretty sure the SR's don't have ESC, just ABS so would they still have the same brakes as the older models.

This is causing me major pain right now so Cheers is advance.

Quick check. Look at ya rear diff and see if it's got a load proportioning valve attached, if so it should still have the old size calipers. If he has the rims there can't he just try one tho?

Yeah, its still got that load valve thingo there, he didn't have the rim in stock but I might be able to scab one of a mate or something.
Really hope they do fit tho cause 15" look on point IMHO

I was talked out of them by a couple of tyre shop cos they said very few 15s are 10ply rated where as heaps of 16s are and if ya gunna be driving in amy horrible crap then the extra protection helps. Glad I did tho cos I've seen some horrible gashes in my side walls that would have stuffed a 6 or 8 ply tyre. That was a couple of years ago now, things may have changed.
