offset is fairly important yer...read the start of this thread man...im pretty sure you can only get 0, P20 and P30 for hilux stud pattern
so its one of those
im running P20 with no scrub on body mount, but i clip the chassis on full lock
P30 will not work

In an auto you just stab the throttle and go but in the manual you really notice it as you have to use the clutch to get it moving.

yep, thats the only thing stopping me from going to 33's in the Manual v6.. Its is bad enough now with the 32's on hill starts and trying to crawl over rocks without riding the clutch...
IS ANYONE ON HERE WITH PETROL MANUAL RUNNING 33'S???

Hey fellas,

some great info in this thread. Have my own question to ask.

Am currently running a 17 x 8 rim in a +10 offset with 275/70/17's. Am not running any body lift, and just have suspension lift around the 3" mark. (Bilsteins on the front with adjustable spring perch and lifted springs on the rear.) Have done the usual removal of front mdflaps and a little bit of massaging and am not suffering any rubbing other than at full bump with a bit of steering lock on with the current setup.

My current tyres are just about shagged so i was thinking about trying on a 285/70/17. Was running cooper ATR's but will probabaly try the All Terrains this time. Have accepted the fact that sadly I spend about 90% of my time driving on the road so am sticking to road friendly tread patterns. :)

Any clues whether I am likely to start giving myself rubbing issues going bigger.

Diameters seem to be:

32.16 for the 275/70/17

32.71 for the 285/70/17

EDIT: For reference it seems the 285 75 16 that is a poopular choice in mudders is a 32.83 dia tyre so going to be pretty close to that I guess. So at this point i am probably answering my own question.... Just need to take the same steps others are to run that rubber.....

you hit the nail on the head in your edit darkside, being a 10p offset you probly wont have to trim the body mount...but it will be very close

Biggest problem you will have mate is not with the overall diameter but with the width. 285's are about 11" - 11.5" wide or wider depending on the tyre type. You may have to trim the body mount and other trimming with the 285's

Achievable but it depends on what level of cutting you want to do

^^^ Cheers for the quick responses fellas. Not too shy on getting the grinder out :)

Can someone point me in the direction of a thread or build that might have a few tips on where and what I will be looking to shave a bit off? :)

^^^^ Will definately cut as much off as I can as per the pics I have seen in the other guys builds. As they say a picture says a thousand words. With no body lift and just spring lift< I thought 285's would be about as big as I could go.

mitchie's right lol I got a set of 305's on a -12 offset rim and had to cut and weld the body mount. Now the mtz's are almost stuffed i was considering going back to a 285 but after going to the trouble of getting the 305's to work why go back lol

There are guys on here with the same -12 offset rim as me, and with 2-3in of lift they are fitting 33's with none or minimal cutting. Thats because they are running 265 or 285 width tyres, so you can run 33's on a wide offset rim without cutting, you just have to reduce the width of the tyre.

A body lift wont help you in regards to the body mount as it is apart of the chassis. The inner guard is easy as you can buy a cheap heat gun from supercheap etc heat it up and just push it back.

Heaps of pics in my build up check it out and anyone thinking of doing it if you have specific questions shoot me a pm, its good to bounce things off people who have already done it
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

Hey fellas

I did a search on tyres + lift and lead me to this thread, i know i should have but havnt read all 11 pages yet...but incase it hasnt been mentioned yet..

Superior Engineering in brisbane have a 4" Bilstein lift - comes with the following;

2 x Rear springs
2 x front coil springs
4 x u-bolts
12 x poly bushes
2 x extended rear shackles
2 x Bilstein struts
2 x rear Bilstein Shocks
1 x Extended rear brake line

Its recommended that the diff drop brackets be used as well to lengthen life of CV rubber boots..

They reckon that using 16x8 rims with (0) offset and 285/70 tyres wont rub guards providing you have a good wheel alignment. Im planning on doing lift, wheels and tyres hopefully within a month - and hear nothing bad what so ever of Superior...may be a bit more costly but doesnt matter in the end if you get a good product / service right?

Cheers

How much caster can you get away with in the front end?
I just tag my body mount still and I have taken a heap out of the steel already.

Kev,

Superiors Kit is 4" with coilovers only.

I'd suggest you have a look at one fitted to a vehicle......at 4" the cv angles are pretty severe with out proper rectifying.

The diff drop spacers they provide only lowers the front diff mounts by an inch not the rear diff mount. This is effect rolls the front diff forwards. Because of the position of the front diff mount and the location of the diff, you are really only getting at best half an inch reprieve on cv angles at the sacrifice of 1" of clearance.

Look at the diagram below for reference -

There are other options out there. Check out the vendor section of this forum...there are two vendors that have good alternatives.

just my opinion.

^^^ Agreed on that one. Was surprised to hear a bilstein 4" lift. We played around with the adjustable perch on mine and found the angles of the CV's were just too extreme around the 4" of lift. (Although werent doing any diff correction) Seemd closer to 3" was a more sensible lift.

i am wanting to run 15x8 steel rim with p.5 & 33x15x12.5 tyre. Do you think this will work?
I know i will have to trim the body mount & the like (i have been told it will not work).
