The rims only set me back $100.

Is there no way that they will miss the guards? Or would i need to limit uptravel far too much?

hi ive done alot of searching and this has probably been covered before
but ive got a 2005 d4d auto d/c sr5 lux with the late model sr5 17" rims
ive got stock suspension atm but im going to a 3" lift no body lift
and im looking into tyres im tossing up as to go to a set of
33 12.5 17 mtz?
a set of 285 70 17 mtz?
or 265 70 17 mtz?
and im just wondering how much work needs to be done for the first 2?
i like the 285 70 17
but if i could go to 33 12.5 17 with only a bit of cutting i will as more height why not
but will either of them hit the uca?

thanks

Are you going to be changing your rims? Are the rims factory 17' SR5?

If they are the factory ones and you are not going to change them the biggest tyre would be 265/70x17 as the other would hit the UCA, Sway Bar, Chassis. The P30 of the factory offest is too positive.

You would need to move to a p10 or lower to miss the above. Even then you may need to trim the mount, flare, inner guard, pinch weld etc etc as the other s have done.

Choice is yours mate, work out what tyre you want to run and work from there.

285 is the width mate,

Unless you meant 265/75/17?

ohh ok
nah whats tyhe difference between a 285 70 17 and a 285 75 17?
i probably will go a 265 70 17 but i dont really wanna as a 285 70 would look so much nicer and help out bush :)
what sort of setup would you reccomend to run 305 70 16?
as i had them on my 80 series and they where amazing
what sort of rim would be best as ill only be going to a 3" lift but dont mind doing some grimming and reshaping :P

I've got 305/70/16 on a zero offset and it's works well if your willing to trim the body mount and inner guard. You can do it with a 3 inch lift or 2 inch lift and bodylift as I've done, love the set up

great thanks heaps
how much room do you have between the uca and the tyre?
and how much power loss and extra fuel do u think they caused? :)

Image

Approx 20mm gap as shown in the pic.

Like any 33 they will suck some power and fuel, 305's maybe a little more. I still find it reasonable to drive. A 285/75/16 tends to be a popular choice for 33's on these Hilux.

If you stayed with 17's you could upgrade to prado brakes. On the down side 17 Tyres tend to be a tad expensive.

wow thats heaps thanks
i would stay with 17's but im thinking the 80 series and 100 series gxl rim it can be painted black easy its a zero offset and there as cheap as chips
and a 305 on them is hard to roll off the rim

not to stressed about prado brakes im probably gunna wait and just upgrade the brake booster when one comes out to the pulic :)

thanks

80 series rims wont work.

Ive tried on my hilux with the smaller factory brakes.

I tried and the inner spokes hit the front face of the calipers. you'd need to run a good 5mm or so spacer to get them to work, but I wouldnt advise it.

I also tried on a mates FJ Cruiser (shares same brakes as VSC hilux) and couldnt get them to sit properly or rotate the wheels either.

Try another alternative mate.

Get a properwheel designed for the vehicle.

Steelies are reasonably cheap if you search around.

GU Patrol steelies are 16x8 with +10 offset and can be had cheap aswell...thou Im not sure if they would fit over the VSC calipers......they will on the smaller ones as some members on here run them.
