Buffeting - wind noise

Does anyone get a wind 'whistle' on drivers mirror ?

Postby Steve9R on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 2:54 +0000

Just reading another post which reminded me of the rare but does happen event..

Ive had it happen quite a few times on windy days, doing 100km's ish and all of a sudden you get this 'low sounding whistle' coming from the drivers side mirror (I assume its the mirror).. very hard to describe, but you'd know if you'd had it happen ..

Just interested if anyone has heard it before.. ?

Cheers

Yeah Steve I noticed mine gets wind on the drivers seat when I look in the mirror. I'd like to know the cause.

Wind noise is making me mad !

Postby mechfx on Sun, 29 Aug 2010 6:53 +0000

Hi,
I have an 08 Hilux SR5 dual cab. When driving at 100k's, every time the wind gusts there is a loud roaring sound from the top of the drivers window. If the wind is coming from the other way it happens in the passengers window.

slightly opening the window makes the noise disappear. slightly opening the rear window seems to lessen the noise a little.

Anyone heard of this problem before ?

thanks,
Art

Yes makes me go nuts sometimes putting window up/down as It
Sounds like it's almost slightly open, i think another
Thread mentioned it might be a screw or hole in the mirror but I'm yet to investigate.

Rip out your carpet and problem fixed :D I don't get any of the noises in my single cab SR because its so loud from tire noise, exhaust and engine then stereo from trying to drown them all out.

Weather shields won't help, it's the door seal at the top, with window rolled down and door open you need to push the top of the door so it bends frame slightly and will seal against rubber better, the noise is the wind squealing past the rubber, easily fixed

Could it be the snorkel?

Is anyone getting the noise without a snorkel?

No snorkel here and it happens on both sides depending in wind direction
