Buffeting - wind noise

Re: Wind noise is making me mad !

so in summary..

it happens :
with and without snorkel
with and without weather trims

possible solution - bending door (I agree this is a bit extreme and I wont be doing that)..

I still feel it has something to do with the mirror housing ?

can someone who this happens to regularly humor me and put some tape around their mirror to seal the gap between it and the housing and let me know whether that helps ?

Happens to me but has to be a pretty strong gust and only in a certain direction. It doesn't happen often nor long enough to annoy me. I have a snorkle, no weather shields at the moment.

:o x 3 on bending doors

Woody7 you are a legend.....

Bending the door frame very slightly has fixed the wind noise in an instant. 100% .

Before we bent the frame a mate at work got a bit of paper and closed the door on it trapping it between the rubber and the door frame. (seemingly an old panelbeaters trick to find where torana boot seals were leaking)

Pulling the paper out gave an indication of how tight the seal was. tried it in a few spots and there was a marked difference between the front and at the top of the door.

2 of us gave the door frame a gentle flex near the mirror.

Sorted........

Gotta love a cheap fix..............Anyone want to buy some brand new un-used weathersheilds ?

Hi, anyone experienced annoying buffeting with the rear windows down?? Any tips to stop it?

What about with all windows up and a heavy crosswind or when you pass a roadtrain...anyone have the loud noise like air is passing a door seal?

Scared the f**ken shit out of me when it first happened

Yeah, I've heard that a few times, especially on a run between Canberra and Sydney. Does scare the crap out of you initially.

I solved it by driving the G6E to Sydney instead

Kw 68,
Yeah I had a 2009 SR5 xtra cab that seemed to have the same wind noise under certain conditions (cross winds). Seems like a door seal was not quite 100% or something but could not quite put my finger on it.

Dont have the xtra cab anymore as have swapped it for a extra cab which does not have the wind noise....

Have a yarn to your dealer about this one. VMN's ear to the ground up here in sunny QLD is hearing there is a Toyota Service bulletin out there about this and will be fixed under warranty with a new seal or something.

Hello, I solved the problem, the non-adhesive door seal well with the chassis
not need to change the gasket, NO.
my mechanic has given a strong blow to the door on the top! and the noise is gone!
pressure must be made with the glass door lowered, the door must bend inward...
try and tell me ! :D

I have the problem on the drivers side only and only with a strong cross wind. I believe it is the rubber strip in the roof rail. I inspected mine and lifted it up where it meets the windscreen and the small clip was broken. The rubber appears to sit down properly but it lifts quite easily as the clip is broken. I will get it fixed next service as the clip appears to be just glued into position.

this sounds like exactly the same noise i get. its a constant dull whiny/whistling sound that only starts when i hit about 90kph, toyota reckons they cant hear it but it pisses me off big time. you can still hear it with the windows down but i cant work out where its coming from. i highly doubt it would be snorkel or aftermarket bullbar catching the wind because i never had this problem on any other truck ive driven with these items attached. if anyone finds out exactly what it is let us know cause its driving me mad. Cheers

I just purchased a new SR5 and did one trip in it before fitting OME suspension and a deluxe ARB winch bar. I now get a very annoying whistle from the front end that kicks in about 80klms and out again at 105k an hr. Its driving me crazy and so far have tried blocking all sorts of holes in the bar without success. The noise is a howling sound like you get moving and open plastic bottle into the wind but sounds metal in its effect.

If anyone has had this I would love to know the solution.

cheers

I'm having some nasty wind noise now that I have installed my ironman snorkel. I think the a-pillar bracket is making the average door seal even worse, I've shoved some bubble wrap up its ar$e and around it to build it up gradually, only its flogging down rain now and I cant tell the difference

I had a trumpet like sound coming from the passenger door area of my 09 SR Dual cab. Took it back to toyota. They changed the rear cabin vent, which did nothing. After two years and 140kms, i fixed it. I now drive a 11 SR5 dual cab. I think my sanity is now returning (my wife opinion differs).

It is the the top door seal both side, 08 SR5, i complained to the dealer numerouse times from new, they know about this issue but Toyota refuse to do anything about it. if you car is in Warrenty force your dealer to raise it , dont settle for we dont know, i know they know
