Fitting a mechanical Boost Gauge

Fitting a mechanical Boost Gauge

Postby 07TDDCHILUX on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 6:47 +0000

Hi guys, I have purchased a mechanical boost guage and can't work out where I need to place the T fitting to get a reading. There are no obvious hoses heading off to any sensors etc. Can anyone post a pic as to how you have yours fitted and as to where is a good place for the T fitting.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks 9W6VX,

I did look at that thread after doing a search. However the d4d with the intercooler doesn't look much like that. On the opposite side of the intercooler from the turbo there is something similar. How much pressure drop would occur after the air is forced through the intercooler? In an ideal world i would like the guage to show what the sensor for the ecu is reading.

Last resort is to remove the pipe that runs from the turbo to the intercooler, drill a hole and weld a bung on to it. Not what i want to do.

Anyone else done this on a d4d?

Thanks again.

Best taking your boost level after intercooler as this gives true boost being fed into the engine. You can expect 1-2psi drop across an intercooler.
I'll try and get pics of mine later today and post up.

On my 0 to 15 psi it came with a re stricter with a hole the size of a hair, when I fitted it without it it bounced its brains out.

I'm going to bump this again, given the recent group buy on the pillar pod and gauges.

I've been looking around, but I can't find anywhere definate to fit the t-piece.

I've tried a few lines coming out of the MAP sensor and along its path, but I only manage to get 2-4 psi at high revs.

Those of you that already have one, can you give us a rundown on hwre you fitted it, and/or even better pics to back it up?

Cheers

hey Noodle here are the pics of how Rolux has done his, i done mine the same way just gotta finish mine off. it works well :D this is on the battery side of the engine under the plastic intercooler cover

here you can see where it goes from the manifold to the tee piece then onto the one way valve.
Image

here is another pic of the tee piece. Now you have to extent the vacuum tube as its to short and it will kink and make the turbo go full boost, because following the tube on the other side of the one way valve is the boost senser.
Image

and here is the boost senser at the end
Image

Rolux had his checked at K&N diesel and he was told it was the correct point to hook it up. I went to High tech Diesel and they also told me it was the correct point to hook into. Brendon (9W6VX) i have noticed has also used this point to tee off of but his is a little different as he hasnt got an intercooler but he uses the same vac line.

Thanks Rolux for your help

cheers Troy

Thanks Troy,

That is the line I was playing with, but I was on the other side, more towards the front of the intercooler. I only had a very short piece of vac hose so I probably had leakage (and I was only reving it in the garage).

I'll get some vac line and do it properly tomorrow. I didn't want to start carving up vac line and then find I had the wrong one

Thanks for the input guys, hopefully it helped more than just me

Yeah Troy, I was on the other side of the valve, near the boost sensor, the most I got was only 3 psi. I'll hook it up tomorrow, and then give it a real test

Gott a make sure that the pressure is picked up on the engine side of the throttle body... Else we are getting the turbo side, rather than engine side. Im glad you guys put pics in here, I pulled tha line off ad went for a quick spin with my Autron Boost Gauge and got no reading... ran out of time and put it all back together... Was right to start with! Yay. Will get it done tomorrow.
