I was wondering how secure the seats will lock in. I worry is in a crash or a roll the back seat could slide up and fold forward crushing someone on the back seat. Or it is nice and sturdy.

I would like to hope this is the case and I have ready this topic. Most people were however concerned about the safety in regards to child restraints. I was more concerned with crashing or in my case rolling my car.
Plus I have come across a few mods in my land rover club that seemed fine and everyone did it only to find a fatal flaw later.

Your best bet is to find someone close to you then who;s done the mod and check it out for yourself, and make your own decision..

I agree with what Steve has stated above, but I was just yanking on mine to see if it it would move without undoing the lower seat catch. Very unlikely it would move unless the Toyota designed lower catch or the bolts on the side of the seat failed. Even if that did happen, the seatbelts restraining the rear occupants would keep the lower seat held down.

After the mod has been completed, you dont have to unbolt the 4 bolts to fold the back seat down, this is the point of this isnt it?

once this is done you either fold the base of the seat up as per usual or fold the back of the seat down, just pull the strap as normal, works great! I wouldnt hesitate

Looks like a good mod, has anyone got a photos of what can fit into the space behind the rear seat?
About to do mine, seems to be a lot of talk about sizes behind the seat but I have not seen any pictures posted showing the space. Does anyone have some photos to share?

its a bit hard to take a photo, cause the seat is closed.. and when its open its hard to tell..

I have my big rubber mud floor mats, shovel, 2 snatch straps, blankets, boots all sorts o stuff behind there..

sorry lads if I have missed something but quick question. What effect does this have on the pitch or position of the seat or seat back once secured back in place. I am very tall and with a tall family and tall kids on the up and up so can not afford to lose any fo the precious little room in the back. I would be interested to know your thoughts.

Sounds good though

Brilliant, thanks Steve. For those working out what to put behind there, what about anchoring a proper retractable centre shoulder seatbelt.

Just did mine today, great mod lads!

Enough space for a snatch strap, tyre repair kit, shackles, first aid kit with some room to spare.

Gday boys

I have a 10inch pioneer slim box i bought and tried to put it behind the rear seat with out chopping the hooks, but this wont work, i am guessing that once the hooks are chopped you end up with more room behind the seat? or is it because the seat hooks in easier and is on a slight lean?
If someone could enlighten me that would be great

Have done this some time ago. Removing the hooked ends allows the back of the seat to be folded forward down onto the base. When it is in the normal position, there is no difference to the position of the seat. The purpose of this mod is to allow the seat back to be folded down to allow access to the space behind. Be mindful that the hook is there to "catch" the seat back in the event of an unforseen incident, & if there is a strap etc. pulling over the top, the seat back "MAY" come forward. If you look at the first couple of posts in this title, you can see how the hook has evolved from the original locating finger. Not trying to discourage, merely pointing out the possibility.
