I think this tank would be very close to fitting and only $225 inc. Drew, could you have a measure up please.

Hi guys

Has anyone measured the room behind the seat once the mod has been completed? Looking at putting a slim sub and box behind the seat and was wondering what size i could go

Cheers

Hey mate page 3 of Simon's build (above link) he mentions the size of a box he made to fit a slim sub in behind the seat. I did some calculations a while ago and figured out i'd be able to run 2 soundstream slim subs behind the seat with a custom box if i utilized all the space but i ended up buying a bike instead of sound gear and have since lost my design, i'll have a dig around and see if i can find it for you.

I'd recommend checking out the soundstream slim subs tho, they look like a pretty neat unit and the slimest sub i could find, but still i don't have any first hand experience with them so can't speak too highly of them.

Sorry for the dumb post, but i can't work out how to even get access to behind the rear seat to do this mod? Or do you have to take the whole seating arrangement out :?

Thanks!

hey mate - we just did this today - you need to undo the bolts at the bottom of the seat on both sides - then you can lift up the whole seat (took a bit of fiddling) to unhook the bolts on each side.. -

I had the same problem mate, bit of fiddling but just give it an extra little nudge and the hook will pop up through.

hey guys
once you have done this mod does the back fall down once you lift the bottom up as normal or do you need to lift the back of the seat to have it release?

you need to lift the bottom seat with the 'pull strap' to about 45' before the back of the seat will be able to release and you can pull it forward..

Its a great mod, I did mine back on the weekend. Cant see why toyota didnt do this when they build them. Makes it so much easier to fit up the baby seat in and out...

Maybe because- Once the hooks are removed there is very little holding the seat back in position. If you have a child restraint that goes over the top of the seat back & down to the anchor point on the floor, I think it would be possible for a sudden/severe stop or impact to cause the seat back to collapse forward. As is stated in a previous post, if you are going to combine the mod with a restraint, it may be advisable to factor in some sort of catch chain. Maybe a couple of chain links with a rated shackle to make it quick to undo. My youngest is almost 22 & I took the back seat out to fit my fridge in so it is not an issue for me. Attach the chain to the seat back & use the shackle to hook up to the loop that the guide runs on.

I had thought about this while I was doing it but I think it would still hold well enough but I guess you can never be to careful with these things. Had thought about for the restraint point a bolt though the cab its self with a plate on the outside to stop it pulling it through, as ive seen on many extra cabs.... just a thought at this stage

the only way the rear seat could come out though even with a severe crash would be for the bottom cushion to raise to more than 45' then the rear seat would have to pulled forward at the same time..

if you've got any sort of child restraint on that seat there is no way it should be able to move up or forward at all (so long as the restraint is fitted properly..

Also you'll find that there is quite a lot of hook still on the bracket holding it in place.. if you get a chance and there's someone from the forum close to you who's done it, check their's out...
