Aftermarket Suspension for 2016 Hilux

I'm currently torn between the Fox Performance 2.0s (less local backup) vs Bilstein (had before on prado, were OK but not withou fault) and going the whole hog $4.5k in which case I'd go the Kings over fox or bp51.

Here in Paraguay're selling the BP51 for $6,000, the KING suspension by $5,000. Already had experience with the King suspension, are excellent. The BP51 is better?
I would like a suspension equipped on the TRD versions. I saw that you guys there in australia have such equipment. The suspension TRD is bilstein? which version of bilstein it is used?

This time I got extra heavy duty rear leafs, these are amazing, they are as comfortable as factory leafs but can handle a load, I have had a 990kg box onboard and although overloaded and being very careful, it all felt safe and handled it well.

Everything else I got the same as last time, why change a good thing, Im a very happy return customer.

Thanks for the reply aandy. I have heard good things about Ultimate Suspension, so will look more into those as well. Did you get heavy duty for the front coil springs as well?

Not really sure I only specified the rear springs, for everything else I let Ultimate do their thing, can you get your car to them? My car has a bull bar, winch, batteries, rock sliders etc.. so I imagine they would have been pretty heavy springs.
Give them a ring, very user friendly people.

I had an Ultimate set up on my 2010 and was very happy with it as far as the spring and leaf settings went. I got a Lovells 3500kg GVM upgrade on my new rig and it's pretty good but it doesn't feel as progressive as my Ultimate set up. it could just be me but it feels like it isn't set up for constant load like the Ultimate was. I have a heavy constant load and although it's the same load that was on my Ultimate set up, the Lovells seems to sit on the second stage a lot more giving it a firmer ride. Everyday i have a kerb weight around 2900kg.

I would have definitely gone with another Ultimate set up if they had offered the 3500GVM kit. I have no doubts they can specify it to easily carry the load but in the end it's about getting the rating.

For those interested, extended shackles will be available shortly. 70mm extended, will give 25 to 30mm additional lift over standard.

My duel cab has an alloy tray fitted and i carry around a bit of work gear in it constantly. The load does vary slightly but its sagging in the rear. Im going to fit a 2" lift kit to the rear only, but don't know which is better the +300 or +500 kg. How do these figures compare to the std suspension rating.

Well standard pack only has 5 leaves i think from memory and i put in ultimates 380 kg constant load. It was sagging from too much weight so added another leaf and its now at 500kg constant load and has rasied it back up. It was 9 leaves for 380kg and 10 for 500kg.

If anyone is able to help me out, over the long weekend I fitted some spacers to my ute that a mate had lying around his shed, 3" lift in the front an 2" at the rear. The spacers in the rear (blocks under the leaf packs), seem to have caused my leafs to now be flat when not even under any load. Only noticed this once I took my trailer off after the spine rattling drive home. What's the best way to fix this?

Or is it possible with the extra lift and towball height, has put extra weight and strain on my leafs during the 450 kilometre drive home, and flattened the springs permanently? Not sure if that's possible or not. Towing a tandem enclosed motorbike trailer with a GSXR750 and YZ450f onboard. (Road bike & dirt bike)

The quickest way to fix would surely be to remove the spacers. Your leaves will not be ruined.

Best long term solution will be dependent on what you are trying to achieve from the suspension 'upgrade'. Just lift for appearance sake, better load carrying, softer ride, improved performance at speed or articulation when crawling etc. ??

Lift was mainly for clearance of the new tyres as they were scrubbing. What's the best way to lift it in the rear? Extended shackles or new leaf and shock setup? Don't do much off roading and when I do it will only be basic stuff for camping.

'Best' is a full new leaf pack designed for your needs.
'Cheapest' is a spacer block (as you have done) or extended shackles.
'Best Value' for your described use may be a spring reset of your existing leaves.

Scrubbing on the rear ?

What size tyres are you running ? A lift may not be the entire solution to avoid scrubbing.

Not scrubbing in the rear just the front, 265/70/r17. But I thought 3" in the front and nothing in the rear may look a little odd...

Got it.

3" front is pushing it without other mods (UCA, diff drop etc.) and there are obviously compromises with using a strut spacer to achieve that lift.

265/70/17 should be workable without major lift and cutting. Is it just rubbing on the mudflap behind the front tyre ? If so, get an alignment done to try and wind it forward as much as possible. If just the flap, can you cut that back or heat mold it out of the way. Try removing the mudflap first to see if that solves the problem then work out a permanent fix from there.

Yeah I've removed the flaps the day I got the wheels and tyres, improved it but still caught slightly at one point in turns. Are the CV's only under strain while using in reasonably roughy 4wding? I'll be looking into a diff drop kit in the future, but as I don't really use 4wd much right now it's not too much of a concern..

For what it's worth, I've had an EFS 50mm lift and suspension upgrade for only 5000 k's. No issues, no complaints. At $1850 installed, I thought reasonably priced.

I have a 300kg constant load rating. It's a stiff, harsh ride empty, but with canopy, drawers & work equipment on-board it's a plush limo ride!

On 265/70/17's the front mudflap scrubbed on lock. Zip tie sorted that, although wouldn't want to get it hung up cause it wouldn't last long...

The on-road handling compared to my old Jackaroo and Hilux (similar lifts) is just beyond compare. Off-road though it falls behind the Jack for articulation, but then that's why we have diff locks :)
