Just out of curiosity, are the TRD Calipers actually Prado's ? same size etc ?

according to mmaaxx yes they are and from what ive seen yes i belive him as they just bolt on which would have been a no brainer mod for trd

Had an interesting conversation with a comp truck driver / 4wder yesterday.. he runs a GU Patrol and we got to talking about slotted discs.. His comments were very interesting in that he says Yes, they are good on the road, and definitely increase the response and braking distance for day to day driving, and if his vehicle was on the road 99% of the time he'd have them.. But.. as he uses his Nissan both on and off road in a 60/40 mix, the slotted rotors he put on destroyed brake pads and warped in no time due to mud and dirt getting in the slots and destroying pads, and going from hot brakes into cold water the rotors warped due to being the rapid cooling properties of them.. So he went back to solid discs and hasnt had a problem..

Just thought I'd pass on what I was told, as I thought it was interesting..

I also hate my brakes so if anyone comes up with an easy workable kit im in. Also for the complaining to toyota, has anything been done about this??

I have heard similar comments for drilled rotors but not slotted.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

The biggest single improvement you can do is get rid of the factory pads and fit Bendix Ultimate's.

They have increased our braking efficiency by at least 30%, the Hilux stops now and ours weighs 3 ton all the time.

Plus we run braided lines.

Only issue with changing brake size and components not designed for the vehicle is you have to get it re-engineered and approved.

Our next steep will be slotted rotors when they come back in stock.

I added braided lines at my last service, it has given me a bit better pedal feel. They are expensive though for RTA approved ones. I have the Bendix HD pads with my DBA slotted rotors, will try the Ultimate pads next time to see how they go.
As Olcoolone said : Not real keen on doing non approved rotor etc upgrades, whilst I have done plenty of mods to date, I do not feel comfortable standing in front of a Judge with some lawyer grilling me about some back yard brake changes that I have made if my vehicle has been involved in a serious accident. I don't think it would sound real pretty. :oops:

The only reason you need braided lines is when your rubber brake hoses get hot and the rubber expands causing a softer pedal as the fluid has more room for expansion.. You'd notice a difference with them in hotter climates and if you do a lot of heavy braking..

How do you find the brake dust on the Bendix's ?

No very little except for a squeak that lasted about 1000k.

The improvements were well worth it, we can get the tyres to squeal and the ABS to come on now at 100Kph.

The down fall is they chop discs out quicker.

The work fantastic when cold or hot.

Ive found the Benix 4x4 Pads to be crap until there HOT and even then i've got too push hard, and i'm running the DBA slotted Rotors as well.

I might have to try the Ultimate's and see what happens as i'm not feeling too safe with the 4x4 Bendix pads.......

The Ultimates do work very well and are about twice the price of the 4x4 pads, the down side is the chop disc out.

sorry for the stupid question but to all the people that have done the prado brake upgrade, what parts exactly do i need? i have been quoted 150 per caliper so 300 for two front calipers from a wrecker. is this the normal going price? is there any difference in which year prado it comes off or any difference between a petrol and diesel prado? also should i just purchase the second hand rotors aswell or should i just go a new set or a set of slotted rotors from dba? im aware that i need to upgrade to minimum 17 inch wheels. im handy with mechanics and tools but to get these in is there any tips you guys could give me or do i need special tools? sorry to be a pain in the ass. haha :) :)
