Can you still get these diffs for Hilux's or have they faded into the distance?

Sorry for taking so long. Buggered up the spelling

They used to be available for luxs and cruisers. They are a worm drive diff for rear axle. Rather than a locker when cornering the outside wheel will always compensate so that complete traction is achieved.

Torsen LSD are available from Locked Drive Systems. I've got one for the front of mine.

in the front of your hilux or other vehicle?

How does that affect the vehicle on road/offroad compared to a locker?

Both.
I've had one in the front of my 79 series for 10 years and in the front diff of my racecar forthe last 2.
The new Hilux one is sitting in a box on the floor behind the drivers seat...

I like them because they have no effect on steering. It suits me because you can stay in 4WD on hard surfaces and still steer. Like when you're towing semi-trailers around in low-range. Also very good on muddy tracks when you need to drive fast to keep up momentum and you're not game to kick it out of 4WD. You have to remember it's a limo, not a locker, so requires wheel speed to make it work. Not the best thing when cocking front wheels in the air.

They used to be referred to as Gleason Torsen. I thought you couldnt put them in the front of a vehicle because the outside turning wheel would try to compensate to the inside causing the vehicle to want to continue straight?

Both wheels kept traction at any one time? Unlike a locker where the axle was solid locked.
