TJM F.U.G are they all like ?

Postby Tunnel Rat on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 11:37 +0000

I just fitted my TJM F.U.G today only ordered it in November :(
What I have found is were the transmission cover bolts onto the cross-member there is a little lump on the cross-member making the front of the guard not sit flush.
Is this just mine or are all of yours the same ?
I am going to remove it and grind out a grove so it sites flush just wish TJM's laser cut it just like the rest of it.
I must say how good is the F.U.G cut out looking at it side on it looks like a glass edge got to love the laser cutter.

wait till you bash that F.U.G on a rock whilst going hard up a hill and you'll appreciate how tuff and "hilux saving" it is.

Ive bashed mine a few times and the noise when landing on it, I thought for sure thats gonna cost me to then go and look and theres barely a scratch on it, just some discolouring, is absolutely amazing.

Go the F.U.G 8-)

Hey Max they sure are tuff.
I just checked your hilux thread and looks like they are all the same so it's not just mine.
This is your pic see how the front middle bulges down thats what I was talking about.

TJM F.U.G are they all like ?

I got quoted $370 fitted at TJM Nerang on Tuesday. Why do they charge different prices at different stores. As bad as Toyota with the service prices, all over the place.

I'd have to agree with mmax.... mine has taken a fair few big knocks and nothing more than a scratch.. Mone where $167 each from TJM Albury $334 as a pair. Not trying to plug the TJM guys but the Albury guys have beebn nothing short of brilliant to deal with and the prices seem to be spot on...

One of the first mods I'd recomend to a noob strating out...

I had been using the crossmember as a jacking point when changing the oil. I noticed I had squashed it, so stopped using it. The FUG sits flush and hides the damage. Sweet.

Black where the original color/make.... the new versions are all the gold (Zinc Plated I think - Rust resistant anyway.).

The Gold hides the scratches better apparently and after several months in use and many a ding, mine still looks pretty good. The black tended to rust and highlight the scratches more....

If you wanted you could probably get them powder coated to a color of choice for not alot of $$'s

jeff

i just phoned TJM & told them that I got the Black Powder coded one.
He said he has never seen them before.
He did abit of investigation & got back to me. He said there was a small batch that came through powder coated, but was happy to change it to the gold one
