Has any1 gone for the 4.11 gears running 32s in a manual diesel? What it is, for the everyday hlux 32s no gear change, fine. But, with Hilux towing 2 tonn excavator and at least half a tonn in canopy, taking off on a steep hill really tests the clutch. I'm worried the clutch won't last very long. I plan to run 33s in bush so for me I think 4.11s r the go. Just hope at 100kms/h it's not sitting at 3000rpm

Also. Has any1 heard of Yukon gears? Im not really up with gears so any info appreciated.

nobody makes 4.1's for the hilux front other than factory Toyota gears for the Tacoma in the USA - being factory they are damn pricey unless you can source them cheaper second hand.

Can you re-gear the Elocker like the ARB locker?

the locker dont matter.....the e locker requires you remove your crown gear so a regear is possible ofcourse.

rodw wrote:4:1 Crown Wheel and Pinions are the best match for your truck. Maybe consider locking the front first as that will work out cheaper as you will need to buy the front Prado Diff carrier to fit the Ring and Pinion. This adds $360 to it.

If you update change your diff gearing the right front locker is the RD111 which includes its own carrier so you save the $360 cost of the part

I have a front locker installed already and I would like 4:1 diff ratios, the chart says I will need a prado front diff as hilux 4:1 is not made. But reading the above it sounds to me that if you get ARB locker in the front the housing is changed and I don't need to buy a prado diff in order to get 4:1?? Am i understanding this correct :?:
I hope I'm am would be great news for me ;)

Still need a new locker for 4.11 s . The locker you have only suits below 3.9 numerically as there is not enough adjustment in the centre to get the 4.11s to mesh correctly. You will need a prado locker to run 4.11 .

Further to what Scott says, Skog got some feedback from ARB who said that if you were prepared to wait for a Production run of the Prado Locker, they could make an extra centre for you which would let you convert your current locker to the Prado one.

On the VMN Drawing board is a Thick cut front diff crown wheel and pinion in 4.3 ratio which if it gets into production would work with your carrier and you could marry it up with a 4.3 rear diff which are already available.

When will know if they will stay in production?

Also I going to have to sell my front diff and front locker if this 4.3 ratio is not available, how much should I expect to sell it for? front diff with ARB locker

I don't have any timelines on this. The project will be fairly expensive in terms of R&D costs so I am not sure if it will get off the ground. The production costs may not make it viable for small batches when others want a production run of 250 to launch a new product.

I don't know about your locker. Price on used front diffs from wreckers varies a lot from $500 to $1200 and then you would need to add the locker on to the equation. I'd be trying to look at covering the cost of a new locker from the sale which would be a fair price if you could get it.

Just so I know I'm understanding this correctly, when it's a thick cut front crown wheel and pinion 4.3 ratio is it the thick cut that makes it fit the hilux carrier and my 121 front locker? Same as the 4.53 On the chart which is a thick cut suits hilux carrier, will that fit my hilux locker?
The deeper I look into it the more confusing my situation is, almost think it's easier to just pay for it all again :?

And if I was lucky that it will fit my carrier and current 121 locker how would 4.53 ratio go with 33' tires? It sounds a bit too high to me.

I think you got it but the 4.3 does not currently exist. The only thick cut gear set I know is the 4.53

This is what i have been wanting to do for ages. You can buy every individual part for the air locker from arb, i have gone thru this with a mates patrol comp truck when we sheared ever crown wheel bolt off in the front diff.

So what im thinking is my front hilux locker comes out, its housing that the hilux crown wheel bolts to comes off and the one off the prado locker goes on to whats left of my hilux locker, then the 4.1prado diameter crown wheel goes on and it all goes back in. Save's buying all the rest of the stuff.

But what i dont know is will the prado sized crown wheel fit inside our front diff housing ?? or will i need the prado front diff housing as well..........
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

I run the 4.55 thick cut with the 121 ARB locker up front. A very tight fit but it works. For the 32" tyres (265x75x16) I run at 2850 rpm @100km/h (small variations as it depends on tyres and wear). The main advantage is even lower ratio than standard which save a clutch and I have torque for crawling at idle speed with 32".
The yoke stay standard up front as the splines of the pinion is the same but the rear needs a different yoke as it has less splines.

Drew where have you been? Yup, it will fit, the part numbers for the front diff housing are the same between Hilux and Prado. The Axle tube has a different part number but the clamshell housings are interchangeable.
