Grab it mate that's what I paid and it is dirt cheap at that. Very hard to find under $1k

Great stuff mate,What are you doing for the rear gears? VMN can help out with an aftermarket rear gear set. They just organised to fit it into my truck to replace the one I broke. It is about half the price of the Toyota Crownwheel and pinion which sells for $1020. I'll give him an hour or so to have dinner and then get onto him to post up some details. But here is my diff with brand new 4.1's ready to be fitted tomorrow:

Just seeking final clarification before choosing a new set of tyres so I know where the "Tipping point" lies between needing a re-gear or not..
From this thread it seems clear that a re-gear is a good idea when running tyres of 32 inches or above.
Most of you seem to run 265/75R16's. Correct me If I am wrong but that size is actually more like 31.5 inches than 32. Why am I splitting hairs? Because I currently run 265/65R17 tryes which works out at 30.5 inches. These seem OK and as this is the same size as the 2010 update (which I believe shares the same gearing as the earlier models fitted with 29's from the factory???) gearing should be acceptable if not ideal. At least the speedo is 100% accurate!!!!
The next size up (which was what I was considering) is 265/70R17. These are 1 inch bigger so 31.5 inches. Initially I thought that would be OK without a re-gear as it was below 32 inches.
However on closer examination it appears to be exactly the same diameter as the 265/75R16's most of you run! So there lies my dilema...when is a 32 not a 32?
Am I right in saying the "Tipping point" actually is a bit lower than 32 inches and that a re-gear is preferable with 31.5's.
Cheers
Scott

mmaaxx wrote:How are 31's too tall for stock gearing?
31's will give you a much more accurate speedo reading via GPS than the factory speedo does.
The FJ Cruiser has the same drivetrain as the hilux V6 and will come with almost 32's as standard.
If I had a manual and 33's I wouldnt bother regearing, if I went bigger than that then maybe.
If you have an auto and 33's then I reccomend a regear as the first gear in the autos is too tall.
32's.....wouldnt even bother with it.
just my 2 cents.

If i were to purchase the 4.556 front and rear crown wheel and pinion gears from Locktup 4x4 and then purchase the 120 Prado front diff carrier. Would this be a fit and how would my Hilux Diesel Auto run on 33's using this setup?
