I think it is likely to be the 2L twin turbo, unless they move to a 6 cylinder engine??

edit: this assumes they use something from the current BMW lineup

I your honest opinion boxhead55, is this a step in the right direction for Toyota? Steering away from in house development?

99% sure one of these 2016s drove past me in Kalgoorlie today. Definitely Toyota (badges), definitely not 150 series, looks just like the ones in the photos at beginning of thread. Was gun metal grey. I turned around to follow for a closer look but lost it at the lights...

EDIT.....er....I'm wondering now if it wasnt maybe a Tundra....looking at the Tundra thread....that might be embarressing

In todays carsguide, the new prado has a 4 cylinder 3.9ltr engine with 5speed auto. Possibly the hilux engine to come?

Townsville Bulletin.
Could have been a typo, but I'm just going off what it said.

Just looked at the article on the net, it says it is a 3.0ltr engine. The local paper obviously hit the 9 key instead of 0 lol.

They have had a long term partnership with Yamaha.

If you look at the pistons and conrods of the 1.8 1ZZ engine from the last Celica, theres Yamaha stamped all over it.

I beleive the 20valve 4AGE's also were developed in conjunction with Yamaha.

All of Toyota's 'G' motors had a Yamaha head. ie. 4A-GE, 7M-GE, 1JZ-GTE.

G being the wide angle valve heads, or performance models.

From these photos it almost looks like it has a front mount intercooler? What do you reckon?

My singer grandmother died a while ago and while talking to her (seance) I asked her to use her spirit powers to let me know what the next Hilux power source will be....

And SHE said

it will be a TD hybrid in line with Toyota's green policy.

She was quite fat was gran...
