blown headlights

Postby scotty on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 9:58 +0000

I have replaced both headlights now at seperate times, they keep blowing. Not sure why? Have had the driving lights professionally fitted about a 2 years ago had no problems till 2 months ago. I also upgraded the headlights same time i got driving lights done.
Anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas what going wrong? Getting expensive!
Cheers

Some of the upgrade globes are pretty ordinary for life span. I used some of those +50 globes and they lasted only a few months. Gone back to standard globes and rely on my driving lights for the upgrade
I have nothing good to say down here so I wont say anything at all

Haven't seen this problem with Plus 50's yet but it might be the same as high powered globe failing early.

High power globes have a shorter life the standard globes because the filaments are made with smaller gauge wire and have more windings, the filament burns a lot hotter causing it the become more brittle and with the thinner wire and more windings it will vibrate and snap easier then a standard globe.

Plus 50's are the same except the filaments are much the same as standard globes in winding and thickness, the way the output is increased is by using higher temperature gases making the filament burn brighter.

You can get a Plus 30 heavy duty version that is used on a lot of trucks, the filament has a support leg that is connected to the middle of the filament stopping vibrations.

I get about 18 months out of my IPF Fatboys. Which is not good enough IMO. :( Great lights still.

scotty,
i had to adjust my lights after bar/winch/springs.
so i made a board to do the job old tables on its end
on low beam thetop line of ur lights are to be between 50- 70 mm below the horizontal line of the height or the centre of ur lights @5 metres
if that sound complicated well it is sorta but in quoting all that crap i set mine @ about 60mm
i had more probs before when truck was stock.
the lights have definately got more balls about them than standard
cheers

Scotty, I have to ask the stupid question... your not touching the globe (glass) in any way prior to installation are you? this will cetainly cause the globes to blow prematurely... Cheers TOMUCH

I was reading a thread somewhere recently and the guy was saying if you buy Hella premium lamps that they are rebadged of either Osram Silverstar or Phillips vision plus but alot cheaper to buy this way (almost half price). Aparently the serial number on the side of the lamps is identical to prove it ??
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!
