Flashing Dash Lights

Postby Skeney on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 12:41 +0000

Guys,

Did a trip up the Quobba coast today and noticed on the way in (B4 we even got off road) the dash ligts were flashing on and off. I was travelling with the lights on during the day (you know, its what they say to do... while traveling country roads) and the dash lights seemed to flicker on and off unexpectantly at certin times. Generally when the vehicle crossed a cattle grid or the like...

Wanted to know if any one has experienced this... all other vehicle operations seem normal...

Please help...

Skeney.

PS look for seperate post of same trip with pics!!

narp, i haven't seen that!!
sounds a bit bodgy!!
by dash lights do you mean the dial illumination etc, or actual engine/system type warning lights?

have you tapped into the dial illumination circuits for any dash accessory night lighting??

Sounds like a bad connection or Earth.. As long as you havnt done any dodgy wiring under the dash, you should take it to the nearest dealership, and get it checked.. it should be covered under warranty.. Cheers TOMUCH

Thanks Guys,

Nahh haven't done any wiring my self but, recently had air locker installed as well as cruise control and a set of spotties were installed b4 i got the vehicle... All done by pros.

It's the actual dial illumination as suggested above, and it certainly seems like a dodgy earth to me too. will definitely get it looked at.

Cheers again.

Skeney, If all the lights are playin up it could be a fuse If its the main dash it might be the dimmer not plugged in correctly, That panel where the dimmer is comes out easily (clips in) to access the plugs to the switches. Worth a try. Could be a faulty dimmer if all above is OK.

You said you had airlocker installed , check where they tapped in for illumination of switch, i did mine and tapped into cig lighter illumination circuit , so maybe a loose connection where they tapped in ie dimmer circuit

Cheers Drew

Guys,
Thanks all for your input. I haven't had time to thourouly check yet.

One thing I noticed was it appeared to happen after I let my GF drive!!!8-) Jokes aside, I'm wondering if it could possibly have been a wire crushed or something when she lowered the steering column???

After I returned the column to the higher position the problem seemed to dissappear...

What d'ya reckon??
