2012 lux and 16x8 sunraysia wheels

Postby gazza 2012 sr on Mon, 29 Apr 2013 7:33 +0000

Hey guys,
I have searched the forum looking for the answer to my question but couldn't find anything about the late model lux
Just wondering has anyone had any luck finding 16x8 inch sunraysias for the latest hilux ??
Everywhere I go everyone says I can only get 16x7 inch sunnies to fit the hilux
I have read that Nissan wheels may fit, is this true??? If so witch ones

Please help

I've been looking around for information myself. As far as I can understand, the 2012 Hilux SR5 dual cab has rotors and calipers too large to wear any 16" Sunraysia wheels, as they will not only scrape the head of the caliper, but also the face.

I have a 2012 SR5 extra-cab that come with 15" wheels standard, with what I believe are smaller rotors but same sized calipers. I can't get any confirmation on the rotor size for comparison as I haven't checked, but over the weekend I tried a set of 'Gecko' Sunraysia styled 16x8 +0 wheels - They fit around the caliper without any issue, however there is no room between the face of the caliper and the wheel, resulting in MINIMAL scraping. By minimal, I mean that you can spin the wheel freely by hand but It just manages to graze the caliper enough to scratch the surface.

I was told I could massage a tiny section off the caliper to enable safer room to move, run more offset but or use spacers - None of which I'm comfortable in doing so. Until I can get every bit of info from this forum with others experiences with the size I'm after, I'll have to just keep on doing trial and error myself.

Does anyone know whether the 2012/13 SR Hilux's have smaller rotors/calipers than their SR5 counterpart? I'm asking because I have seen 2 members rides here, one of which who has 16x7 -11 and the other 16x8+0 Sunraysias fitted to their 2012 SR Hilux's.

I'm awaiting further information via PM from one of the members of the make of his wheels, and the size his brakes - He's informed me he has ample clearance between the face of the caliper and the wheel itself (2-3mm).

Hey mate,
I know the sr5 duel cab runs 17" wheels for the bigger brakes, sr's run 16" wheels not sure if the callipers are the same. Let us know if you find anything that fits

15inch rims on a sr5 2012? Really

I had the standard 17s then I tryed 16x8 sunnys with zero offset an no go
They grab onto.the rotor an wont spin at all

So then got hold off some 16x8 alloys with zero offset an.they fit with about 3-5mm
To the caliper

Hey guys,
My lux is sr it's not the diameter of the wheels that bother me it's the width.
I want to run 8 inch wide wheels but keep getting told "I can only get 16x7" witch I think look a bit shit
Does anyone know what offset will fit a sr in a 16x 8 sunny if at all?
I have genuine sr5 flairs so doesn't matter if they stick out a bit ( past the regular sr guards that is)
Cheers

Member 'cooper92' has a gorgeous 2012 SR Xtra Cab running 16x7 Sunnies, utilizing 5mm spacers to clear calipers along with the SR5 flares. I'm unsure of the offset though. Build thread: http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=17165

Member 'Benn89' also has a gorgeous 2012 SR Xtra cab running 16x8+0 sunnies with SR5 flares. I'm still trying to get some manufacturer/supplier info of his wheels from him. From what he's told me they clear his calipers by 2-3mm - I don't believe he is using spacers.

I trial fitted 'Gecko' branded 16x8+0 sunnies over the weekend on my 2012 SR5 Xtra Cab and I can tell you (without tyres on), the rim looked to sit flush with the guards to give you an indication.

I have a 2013 SR D/C with the VSC safety pack and its the same as the SR5, so 16s that I have for sale wont fit. If you get the Stock SR without VSC they will fit, smaller breaks.
Live for today, as tomorrow is not here yet.

Thanks for the info mate - I wasn't at all aware that VSC was an option for the new SR's.

Cheers!

O.K, all done! After trying many different brands and being told (by wheel companies, through a mate who owns a tyre service) that they don't exist for the new hilux I got my hands on some 16x8 sunraysia wheels.

Gekko make 16x8 that fit SR, although they are very close to the brake calliper, but they do fit!

Anyway teamed them up with some BF Goodrich 165,75,16 mud terrain tyres, heated and pushed in the front inner guard a little bit removed the pointless mud flappy thing at the front and Bobs ya uncle!

Then i put some SR5 flairs on, now she just needs a bull bar

Great,

So I read 4,000 threads but miss this one F......

I have a 2013 Sr5 and my new CSA steelies with Kumho M/Ts 285/75R16 arrive yesterday. And guess what,,,,,, they hint the brake calipers,,,,,,, nice..#$@%^&%$#$%^ shit.%^&^%$

They will turn with a 7mm spacer but I don't want to run them. If you can find a rim that does have the inner hump on the rim they will work. I think a -13 will fit because you are moving the face inwards which will move away from that inner hump.

I will have to post some pics of where they rub.

Patrol steelies definitely fit, I had my mates on last week. They are 0 or +10 off set, not sure. They look +10 to me..
