Here are the pictures for the Smart Gauge from Thailand which will work for 2005/2006 models.
2007 model onwards will work with the Scangauge II but will not work with the older 2005/2006 models.
The Smart Gauge works for 2005/2006 models and I think it will also work for the 2007 onward models.
Basically, the difference between the Smart Gauge and the Scangauge is that the Scangauge has the features to give you extensive fuel consumption numbers. The Smart Gauge does not have this feature but will essentially give you all the information you need for engine monitoring.
It can also read and clear DTC codes and like the Scangauge is a plug & play installation.
It has:
blue colour display lighting which the level of the lighting can be adjusted
can display 3 parameters or 1 parameter on the LCD display (my pictures shows 3 parameters)
alarm for the rpm where a yellow light will light up indicating that you have exceeded the RPM you have set
alarm for ECT (engine coolant temperature) where a red led will light up together with a buzzer indicating that the coolant temp you set has been exceeded. (I set mine at 90 degrees Celsius)
alarm for BATT (battery voltage) where a light will light up together with a buzzer indicating that your battery voltage is lower than your set voltage ( 1 set mine at 12.5V)
There is another green LED named A/C which I think is for the aircon compressor but does not work for the Hilux.
The manual is in the Thai language so it's Greek as far as I am concerned! ha...ha......
Displays:
IAT (intake air temperature in Celsius)
ECT (engine coolant temperature in Celsius)
FTM (fuel temperature in Celsius)
BATT (battery voltage in Volts)
MAF (mass air flow in g/s)
RPM
KMH (vehicle speed in kilometre per hour) This can be adjusted manually to match your GPS reading.
ECL (engine calculated load in %)
TBP (turbo boost in psi)
MAP (manifold pressure in kpa)
CRP (commonrail pressure in Mpa)
BARO (barometric pressure in kpa)
EGR (exhaust gas recirculation position in %)
EGRE (exhaust gas recirculation position error in %)
ACC (accelerate pedal position in %)
This feature do not work on my Hilux 2KD-FTV engine:
KML (fuel consumption in kilometer per litre) I think it will work for the 1KD-FTV engine which OZ uses. Can't read Thai!
The stand is not included with the Smart Gauge but can be ordered separately.
Physically it is larger then the Scangauge II.
I am happy with it as I can now monitor the ECT accurately as the Toyota coolant gauge is severely dampened and basically just stays in the middle position only.
The battery voltage is also useful as our Hilux does not have a voltmeter.
The FTM and IAT are fun to monitor. As to the others, I don't really monitor them.
I have a separate Autometer boost gauge so I don't monitor the Smart Gauge turbo boost reading. Furthermore I noticed that, it will go up to a maximum of 14 psi (or somewhere there as I can't exactly remember) only. I actually run 20 psi with a boost cut controller built in my Dastek Unichip chip.
With my pyrometer to monitor EGT and another gauge for ATF temperature, I reckon I don't need to add anymore gauges!
Feel free to ask if you need more information.
