Hilux Vigo 2005 Backseat

Postby andoropoi on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 5:49 +0000

I'm driving a Hilux Vigo 2005 model....Im really having trouble with the rear seat...I prefer If i can just fold down the rear seat so that i can have access to the space behind....but there seems to be no option for that since it design to be folded up purposely so that i can have access to the two holes under the seat....

Been surfing around looking for idea on how to modify the rear seat so that i can easyly have access to the space behind the seat....i need to put two of my cd changers and my sub woofer in it......it would be great if i can utilize the space....i believe some of u here can help me on this...thanks...

There is plent of room behind the seat. Have a look at the thread in my signature, you will see what I mean. (Amp, laptop, 2 power supplies, USB hub enclosure, you name it!)

yeap i know rodw...there is plenty of room behind the seat...what i mean is the mean to access the space behind the seat easily....cos the seat design to be fold up....i want to modify the seat so that i can fold down the back seat to easily access the empty space behind

I'm thinking of changing the seat to the old style rear seat.....

Good idea.. I hated the idea of this new design, it sucks.. hopefully someone has made something up? there must be a way to knock up a method but be careful, it might need to be engineered to be approved to comply by the vehicle rules in your country.

Not sure where you are but here, we'd need engineering approval to change the seats, best bet is to use it for things that you don't need to get to like subs and amps or maybe a water tank. You might be able to gain access to the CD changer from below the seat with it in the raised position.

I'm from Sabah, Malaysia.....After surfing around I found out this idea from Aorai in Malaysia Motor Trader forum (pasted below) with the link to the pictures and his posting (http://www.motortrader.com.my/asp/forum ... C_ID=23888). But with the subs booming behind...I just dont think this is a good solution....I think the backseat might rattle...and will got problem later with the backseat being not firm enough....come on lets find a solution to this design flaw by toyota...got lots of wasted spaces behind out backseat.....we need to utilize the unuse space...

1. Fold rearseat upward and remove all bolt that secure the seat
(total 4 bolts)
2. Lift the backrest upward until the hook come out from the 'hanger'
3. Let the backrest folded downward and secure back all 4 bolts that
was removed before.
4. Have a close look on the hook, you will notice a groove (where the
hook and the 'hanger' have contact that create a knocking sound
when you driving on uneven road)
5. That groove is the point where you need to cut the hook. (be extra
carefull, DONT CUT THE HOOK TOO LONG. If you cut the hook too
long, it cant hold your backrest anymore.
If you cut it too short, you cant push the backrest back to it
normal position.

The trick here is you need to cut the hook, so that it will become
push to lock and pull to unlock mechanism. Before you do the
cutting you can push the backrest back to normal position until
the hook touch the hanger and have a look on it, so that you have
the idea where to cut. (use hacksaw to cut, dont use grinder)

To be safe, it is better to cut it in the middle of the groove
(with this cutting the hook is still long) and you can use metal
file to file it bit by bit until you get the suitable length.

6. Done. This explanation seems long but it would take you half an
hour to get this done DIY.
