I'd get a 79 series DC if they came out with an auto and a 1HD-FTE... not really a fan of the common rail V8

The 1vd is a good motor a little tricky to reassemble when you get it down this far. (Dont
Ask!)ImageImage

Still a great motor and a great truck.

Do tell :?:

Before I take mine offroad I will be injecting electrical gel into every connection possible even if it takes all day. Was also toying with the idea of spraying the entire engine bay with a thin layer of diesel to prevent mud from sticking and lessen any problems with water. Only problem I can see is the diesel will smoke or burn away, Anyone done this or think the engine bay will get too hot??

Ron, Inox is your best friend here. I have seen it used and used it for 20 odd years in the truck and marine industry and it is mothers milk!

Had 10 year old Jet skii's & outboards look like brand new (which is extremely rare) inside from customers using this. It makes your plastics look great, doesn't perish your wiring casing like CRC or WD, is food safe and handles the heat very well.

Looking forward to some long term reports on your cruisers lads.

Awesome will look into that :ugeek:

Hate to ask Boxhead but what happened to the engine to need that sort of tear down?

Have you seen much go wrong with that particular engine ?

X2 on the Inox. Best stuff ever invented. :D I used to run it as the ONLY form of lubrication on the rear axle bearings of my go-kart. Super low resistance. Was able to get another 200 rpm out of the engine, which meant 1 tooth higher on the rear sprocket which meant better acceleration....... you get the idea. Bearings never collapsed either. I sprayed and wiped down the whole chassis/engine in it and it always looked like new. Was awesome for wet races too. Always sprayed my outboards down as well and never had a problem and always looked like new. Thoroughly recommend.
Cheers Rod

I had to change 3 conrods as the ute roled and it sucked in oil from the engine breather had a fluid lock and bent the rods..

the 1vd motors is a good item. great torque and fantastic fuel consumption.
they look after u as you look after them. like any motor I guess

Ahhh deere   That will take about 1/2 carton to complete for the average joe and the other half to recover. Tho in theory they should last longer in the valley as not effected by mud. But the heat may hurt them abit

The Landcruiser thread...

Postby boxhead55 on Sun, 04 Aug 2013 3:03 +0000

It is not the mud that kills them. Well the mud starts the problem

The early 1vd had raided rubber plugs on the top of the starter motors as a breather to keep water out.

Now the dust that gathers in the valley of the v8 gets wet and turns to mud and blocks the drains. Image

Then low and behold the stater fills with water and stuffs up.
Now there is a breather that fixed this problem
Image
You can see it track up to the rear of the right head. I can not be retro fitted you have to get a new starter as well

Not a nice job. Bust becoming a bit of a problem. Lots of fuel and water hoses and pipes and egr and hundreds of little tricks to do it in a good time frame.

And on top of that you have twice as many injectors if you get a bad batch of fuel.. For the money Toyota charge for a vehicle and their advertising campaign (Unbreakable & Landcruiser tough) you would think they would get these issues sorted before we the paying customer find them the hard way. Ok back to my box..
