Show us your tray

Postby johnny5x on Mon, 04 Oct 2010 8:21 +0000

On the weekend i had the bikes in the tub and stupid me rolled a meter backwards down my steep driveway into my brick wall with the tailgate down and damaged my tailgate. It doesnt close now (hinge bracket is bent). I am weighing up whether it is really worth fixing it or spend the money on a custom tray and extending it so that i can fit two bikes on it

Im going to get some quotes and determine the outcome. in the mean time i would like to see pics of members trays to get some ideas. Steel and alloy. Have had a good search through the forum and seen a few but would be good to see pics in one central location.

i only had my tail down when i was going riding so...

i was in the process of making an alloy box that put a back on the tub
so it was three sides and a foor that sits on the tail

it was going to attach to the tie down points and also slip down the gap between the tub and tail gate when its down

then powder coat it black

keeps the bikes and everything else in

maybe if u fix it give this a shot

hopefully makes sense??

cheers
Cheers Seb.

Damn, we all have those moments!!
I have a standard steel tray with canopy, next lux will have a alloy tray simple due to the weight factor, as long as legally possible is the way to go.

Parr, I'm in the process of making a custom tray and would be very keen to see a few more pics. I like the way the light boxes have been finished into the side of the tray. Looks great!

Ive found a tray that i like. I think it would suit my truck being black and all. Made by Max trays. They have a special on hilux trays at the moment.

I think it would look good with checkerplate and the polished headboard looks great.

Then there is the deluxe model that is nice and shiney but would be a pain in the arse to keep it that way

I also like their adjustable tie down points but think i would need to get recessed hoops for tying bikes down

Their website is worth a look

I've gone about it all a little backwards, but I've purchased an alloy canopy that sits on the tray and uses the tray sides. So the new tray will be made to fit the canopy.

i don't have anymore photos sorry, and he is away getting his new ski boat. There were a few things about the tray that i loved the sides sit in sort of a channel with a rubber seal this stops rattling and sand mud and water from getting in. also the drop sides have a small steel cable that can be hooked on to form sort of a table. and the storage boxes in the roof.
they are about the only things i can think of that you may not get in an off the shelf unit

cheers

Onya seb, i like the last pic but no head board

Rang Max trays today and the price on the first tray i pictured was $3000 installed. Seems a bit pricey for a "special"

Seb the top 4 pics you posted, the trays are all TripleM trays who supply toyota. The top 2 are the heavy duty alloy tray and the 3rd and 4th one (blue) is steel. Had the TripleM steel on my old lux, was good but heavy. Have the HD alloy on my current ute and it is fine. As they are a bolt together tray the finish is not as neat as some other trays around. One of my favourites is Alby's tray, and his canopy. Check out his build.

Brusa -

FAQ -
Can I post images?
Yes, images can be shown in your posts. If the administrator has allowed attachments, you may be able to upload the image to the board. Otherwise, you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor images stored behind authentication mechanisms, e.g. hotmail or yahoo mailboxes, password protected sites, etc. To display the image use the BBCode [img] tag.

Basically just make a photobucket account
Load up the photos then use the IMG code to post them on the forum.
I have read a thread on how to do this but couldn't find it - Thats how to do it anyway.

Its very straight forward mate - Goodluck.

Forgot to add this one.

If Brusa's is 4000 - 3000 may be alright?
Is it really worth it just for your bikes to fit in?

Thanks for that Daveo
